Sorry to ask such a simple question, but I am rather new to bangers.

Is the bolt pattern from transmission side of a B flywheel cover the same as that of an A model?

I tend to think that an 'A' transmission will not bolt to a 'B' flywheel cover - am I correct?

  4. Simple answer is you are correct, the A and B trans/flywheel housings are different.

What exactly are you thinking of doing? There is a ton of info here on this forum with transmission swaps.

BTW, the Coupe is beautiful, Good on Ya!!

Just wondering if a Clings/PSI V8 transmission adapter will bolt to a B flywheel cover.

Thanks for the compliments on the coupe. I have to say "I bought well", and the credit for it lies with the previous owners. I will only accept credit for the way I maintain it going forward.

  7. Stovebolt If you have a B transmission V8 gears from 32 to 48 fit. You will need to change shifter tops if you use the 39 to 48 gears.

  8. I am pretty sure that it will not, if you have a "B" trans, follow the '39 conversion tips.
There is a guy in Australia or NZ who makes a "B" to T5 conversion.

    Best, John

As you can see my coupe has a trimmed B oilpan, and an A flywheel cover and trans.

I have purchased another b oilpan, and a flywheel cover, and a B transmission. Still need to collect a few other parts before I set out and do the conversion. I am trying to keep the car as true as possible to the way Harold built it, just make it easier to drive in today's traffic

If you have a B transmission housing you just got to get the helical cut gears and a shifter top with the wider fork. When I did my tranny I could not find a complete shifter top but I did find a NOS fork so I just put that on a , a ?1935 shifter.

  11. In addition, you will need a pedal mount and wishbone mount as the "B" did not incorporate.
Be careful of these, some are better than others.
    Another option is this;

I like the T5 option with open driveline personally, with "A" flywheel housing for wishbone.

My manifold gaskets work their way towards the center then the last exhaust port leaks and starts ticking. [IMG] The gasket worked for 4 years. When I Mike the thickness of the gasket where its been crushed they’re all within .003 of each other. [IMG] manifold looks good with a straight edge no light gap, but on a surface plate I can just barely slide .003 feeler under the middle, a .002 will slide freely.

  18. Did you check the surface of the cylinder head where the ports meet the manifold?

Do you have installed the exhaust manifold seal rings? I think they may prevent the gasket from migrating toward the centre.

Do you use exhaust ‘glands’ ?
They will help ...push/crimp against the main gasket to keep it properly located, preventing exhaust leaks.
ok for four years.... how many times have you reset/checked torque on those brass nuts ?
Heat/cold cycles make an occasional re-torque necessary.

  22. As strange as it sounds my A exhaust manifold appears to have shrunk/narrowed compared to the head ports.
I machined up 2 offset rings as the 2 inner ports would line up but the outers kept chuffing on the outside edge. That and some copper rtv/ silastic and problem solved.
I see some headers in my future though.

  23. That headers looking good!

Thank you Guys for the input. I have not retorqued and will next time.
I have some gland rings and will fit them.
The Remflex looks like what I should go with next time, I will order a set.
    Thanks again.

  25. I had my son Owen helping out in the shop today tearing down motors and finishing up some parts.
Upon opening up this motor, he asked me if wooden spacers were a standard............
It had been in there for quite some time.

    Hey John,
You’d think that anyone who could afford to own a Donovan, wouldn’t have to resort to wood parts, eh !
I say the wood was used to hold something/part in place while transport to you/whomever is doing build.

I am careful NOT to over torque...all at one time.
I dont use glands anymore, because I remove gland areas... to port match. In my head every little bit helps... whether it does or not..ha ?
Makes retorqueing /rechecking all the more important, eh.

When installing head studs in the block, should I put some sealant of some kind on the threads?
Or just make sure the threads are clean and install them "dry"?
