Here is a picture of my friends Panel Serial Number that is stamped in the frame. We both think that it may be a 1937 or a 1938. Can someone please help us confirm?

After figuring this thing out, my buddy asked me to find a buyer. It's a sad story that made it's way into something good. I just put this Sedan Delivery into the classified ads. I hope that a fellow HAMBer can buy it and save it. Thanks guys for helping us out. I am going to help him find his dream car, a 1934 3 window or a 5 window. I already spotted a car in Arizona. A fellow HAMBer helped with the find. Thank you guys for being such a awesome bunch!

That's not a sedan delivery, it is a panel delivery.

  10. Yep, you had the right description all along.

    looking at this number...…..

    54-1?0877

    what is the question mark - a 6 or a 5 ???

is it visible elsewhere on the chassis rail in the other two places
where do you find the other two sets on the rail

    thanks

That's a Ford 6 stamp. The other locations that the serial number was stamped are on the left frame rail top, about at the B pillar and about over the rear axle, or maybe slightly before the axle. The numbers under the body might not have the 54- or any stars before and after.

so if its a panel delivery, would it have a 'C' before the first star?

In the US they never put anything in front of the *. The * was to show the beginning and end of the number, preventing anyone from adding digits and trying to change the number.

My little brother has a 34 passenger chassis made in Canada with a C in the number, but it's between the *'s.

it looks like it change BECAUSE you 'could' make the 6 and 9 become an 8

  19. There is no information about body style encoded in the serial number. The prefix tells you which engine (18 prefix for 85 HP and 54-prefix for 60 HP). The serial number was assigned to the engine/transmission unit and stamped on the bell of the trans case above the inspection window. When the engine/trans unit was bolted into a chassis, they had a guy with a big hammer and a set of number stamps who copied the number off the bell of the trans case onto the frame. Literally.

I need to know if you still have interest(or your friend) in the Panel.

If I don't here back from you, I will need to relist it for sale.

Hello everyone. I decided to give this away to a friend that really wanted it. I hope that he has the grit to get this panel back on the road again. He is a Ford guy...

Back to Mopars for me, these Fords are alien to me. LOL

Thanks for all of the help to help ID this Ford, and guiding me to the path of giving it to someone who wanted it.
