Technical New ‘32 Ford throttle assembly?

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by 65standard, Jan 26, 2021.

  1. Are there any reproduction throttle assemblies for the ‘32 Ford? I’m looking for a correct setup for a V8 car.

The 32 has the small little nub out the left side of the pedal arm for the dashboard throttle rod to connect to.

It goes to a bellcrank in the dash tunnel and it works with the hand throttle in the dash.
Make sure you get the little v shaped cover with any purchase. I see 20 to 1 advertised with out the cover. It is required to hold the assy to the firewall.

Here is a pic of the doghouse cup that mount it to the firewall. Those alone not currently reproduced have been selling on EBAY for around $40.

    I ended up modifying a model A IMG_0769.JPG

On the stock firewall there is a vertical hole and 2 "D" nuts .The spoon end of the pedal slips thru that hole. The doghouse has a notch on one side. The notch goes on the shaft side. The pedal pivots in that. The other hole to the left is where the other shaft attachment attaches. 32 Firewall gas pedal hole.jpg Here is a pic.

  17. Thanks
I guess that bump out on the sleeve is what keeps the sleeve from rotating

Yes, the standoff on the sleeve sits against the firewall, and the triangle "doghouse" has a slot which covers over the standoff.

Note I just learned something from my brother a couple months ago. A 32 cover is different from later year covers. So, not only are they usually missing, the replacement might not fit right. I haven't spent time comparing the 32 to later ones yet to visualize the differences.

33 truck firewall 1.jpg 33-34 truck firewall 2.jpg The one that is different is the 33-34 truck ones. They are slightly offset. That is the only difference. Here are pics of the 33-34 truck firewall- gas pedal location. You can see that the doghouse shape is not centered but off set to the top.

If you want to be authentic, those are #12x24 sloted head screws that hold the "dog house" cap to the firewall on a `32 Ford. A rather odd size by todays standards.
So, don't attempt to force some 1/4" X 20 screws into those threads.

Menards home centers have a fairly good selection of 12/24 screws. Zinc plated only, no stainless that I have seen.

I bet all the screws from Menards and Home Depot are phillips head. Hard to find slot head screws anymore. I usually go to McMaster Carr for them, and then buy a box = lifetime supply.

Try Fastenal... they've got just about any fastener you can think of.

My local Fastenal store doesn't have half the weird stuff I want, so I'd need to order it in anyway. I can order any size bolt made by man from McMaster Carr and it will be on my doorstep tomorrow. I bet Henry Ford ordered bolts from McMaster Carr.

Here they are in stainless so they will never rust: https://www.mcmaster.com/screws/thr...lotted/material~stainless-steel/length~3-8-2/
Just $0.10 each in the box of 100.

You can use a 33-34 but need to weld an extra linkage ball onto the interior shaft to run your hand throttle.. [early cruise control]...
