Working on a '55Chev, which someone has slipped a '56 V8 trunk lid onto at some point in the past. Would have been nice to have caught that before paint.
Anyway, I now have to weld up the '56 emblem and V holes and install the correct '55 emblem on it, which I have.
I cannot find a template or any measurements as to where the emblem is located.
If anyone with a '55 out there could just get me a measurement from the bottom of the trunk lid up top the bottom of the emblem at the center, I'd be most appreciative!
    Many Thanks!

The emblem is only about 3/4 of a inch to 1 inch above the key hole.

Just weld up the hole's for the small crest emblem and leave the hole's for the "V". The large crest emblem should fit in the "V" hole's.

Use a 56, SIX CYLINDER EMBLEM, and it'll look like a 55. The 56 V-8 has the large "V" and a smaller red/white/blue Chevrolet emblem above it. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  6. Make sure you by the 56-7 trunk weather strip. 55 is different. No plastic nails to hold it on.

Yes, well, it isn't my car. It's a very nice restoration of a 2 tone green '55 convertible.
    The owner wants it correct.
Nobody has a '55 within a hundred feet that they could get a measurement from??

I won’t swear my car has the original trunk lid, but this is what mine looks like.

I am going to put a new bezel on mine soon, the little ears that hold the plastic piece in are mostly broke on my original bezel. I can post pics later of the holes when I remove the old bezel.

12 1/4" to the top outside
    That'll do!
    Thanks a bunch!

Just measured the other 56 in the garage that is a 6 cly model. The crest is 3/8" higher (12 1/2" vs the 12 1/8" shown here). The bottom of the crest is 1 1/4" above trunk lock. It appears the 55 crest does not interchange with the 56 crest. Without the two side be side to compare I couldn't say why they are or are not different?
