Great idea. Was recently thinking about making a rectangular filter housing for a SBF.
    (Now, let's see 8 1bbl carbs and a cupcake pan. :))

61_dodgefilter.jpg 61Olds.jpg KK_1.jpg Kart_engine 001.jpg Since the air cleaner is the first thing you see when opening the hood, I like making unique ones for my cars, or for customers. A couple I even did a "how-to" on the HAMB. Here's some I've built:
For my 61 Dodge 2 bbl. Hammerformed top, and mandrel bend sides, spaghetti strainer mesh.
61 Olds: completely hand made, matches the shape of the body lines, and mimics the grill
Kopper Kart: made from stainless to look like the Bottger air filter from the 53 Vette.

Little different view of mine. Plus you just can’t get enough pics of a 409!

    Nice air cleaner.

    You have 3 2s and a dipstick on the driver’s side of a 409??

Older thread at start, but great ideas. I am firm believer in getting all the air you can into a motor. I spent 20 years as tech guy at local round track. I seen how creative racers get with getting air in. I have tri -power set up with 3 chrome air cleaners on 59 elky. No much air gets in. I do like the taller units with K+N filters if i have room. Thanks to all for pics!

Some very cool air cleaners. The biggest problem I see with a lot of them is that they are way too restrictive in letting the engine breathe. Especially the tiny singles on a 3X2 setup. We go to great lengths to put on headers and big exhaust on a car and then put a tiny air cleaner on the front end.

I found a motorcycle gas tank among some Key West hurricane debris. I had to make something out of it.

On my 41 PU's Desoto Hemi I used a Desoto oil bath. Cut it up...
    aircleaner3.jpeg
welded in some wire mesh at the bottom and a 4 barrel air cleaner base from summit for some extra air flow
    .
    aircleaner4.jpeg
Used a K&N style element that came with the base plate
    aircleaner5.jpeg
Chromed the distinctive Desoto starred lid after I cut it way from the icky stuff...and Viola! A Desoto air cleaner atop a Desoto 330.

Absolutely beautiful Mr Billy Bandit, - probably the best use of an old oil bath oil filter that I’ve ever seen……..
