I'm guilty of posting same pics. I forget to delete them off my phone and every morning I wake up in a new world. Lol!

Kinda hard to keep track when there are three or four in a row pages to remember. Not a problem have at it. Does anyone use "conversations" to solve any questions?

Really dig all the kustoms that get posted in this thread. But, if some one, maybe younger, that is just learning about kustoms, and looking at features/modifications/etc.. that you would like to do to your own car someday, just some friendly advice. Don't "almost" get it right. Just get it right the first time.

There are many examples of out of proportion chops, wacky body mods, etc.. but this car features a couple of easy to avoid mistakes.

Don't use an aftermarket kit with beveled headlight ring to french you headlights. Scour a swap meet or the internet to find the right rings for traditional headlight frenching.

Stay away from the "awful waffle". These are cheap price ($90 for a set of 4) wheelcovers. They are cheap for a reason. They are awful. They are not stainless steel. Just poorly plated iron. They will eventually rust. They have a waffle pattern roughly stamped in them, not very crisp. Usually a poorly executed white paint application to the waffle pattern. Uuuhhg. Again, scour the swap meets or internet for something cool, or something you can kustomize to make kool.

Sorry for the rant .... we now return to over 1000 pages of kustoms. Viva la HAMB.

  12. Here’s a mild custom Buick a friend of mine owned a few years ago. IMG_1089.JPG you’ll have to forgive the lighting, it was a little cloudy that day. Oh yeah, the truck ain’t bad either.

I have to agree here 54 Del Ray, It took me 6 years to collect the parts for my car and I did not get lazy at the end and run those caps or cookie cutter headlight bezels. You can easily find stock period correct caps, like the 54 Merc Caps I run for sale with a little effort. My car is not perfect by any means but I tried to do it correctly and period correct by studying a lot online about the history of these cars on places like the HAMB here! I also have many books that I used for reference too. Too many shops think they know what a "Lead Sled" or "Kustom" is, look online at cars for sale, they are not even close. One small work of advice too: Kustoms are meant to be shown with the hood down and doors closed as the real beauty of these cars is to show the shape of the car. This is the real difference between Kustoms and Hot Rods IMO. Hot Rods are supposed to be shown with their hoods up! This is where the the bad ass motors live in a Hot Rod and they should be proudly shown that way as most Hot Rod owners put a lot of time, effort, ingenuity, money and heart into them.

That was built by Ian Roussel , on the TV show Full Custom Garage. I believe it is a ‘48 Packard, chopped and sectioned. The front end has 53 Buick headlights and a mix of grill/ bumper components.

Bill, these days one does not need to "scour a swap meet for traditional headlight frenching kits." Kustoms by Spence builds some really nice "rings" for both headlights and taillights...here's their FB page...

As for the hubcaps, there are repro items available as well that are much better than "awful waffles." AND please do not use billet wheels and blackwalls on a TRUE kustom…
