My rules for my cars are as many cubes as I can come up with back by a manual trans when ever possible with big and littles, mag wheels, and big time influence of 50's, 60's custom body work, paint and door slammer drag racing . I am 65 and grew up influenced by what I saw on the streets, at the World of Wheels in Milwaukee and at Union Grove Dragway . To me anything modified for performance, handling and appearance is Hot Rodded ! Larry

Yep, it's just like one of you damn Southerners to take ALL the credit for this poorly thought out style and execution.;):p:D
Rest assured, here in rural Upstate NY, we are also blessed with as many complete morons who's grasp on style and design is nonexistent ...and better yet, we have more rust:p

^^ Do I laugh or cry at that abomination. That VW engine is the equivalent of using a Mazda rotary engine at the other end of the car. :(

^^ Safety down here is mandatory especially with any modified vehicles. We need to jump through a lot more hoops than you guys in the US; engineering, compliance etc at both state and federal levels. It even extends to importing modified vehicles from overseas, what a nightmare! It's a good thing that we have minimum safety standards that need to be met.

  15. I had a 7 cylinder twice. Once when my piston kissed a valve and knocked the top off the piston. This happened on the highway, and no possibility of finding a wrecker or repair. Because I thought the whole engine was toast, I made the decision that I would pull the plug and drive it as far as I could, and we made it the 300 miles. I pulled it apart, expecting to find a mess, and the top of the piston was completely gone, but the bosses held together and there wasn't as much as a scratchon the cylinder walls. I replaced the piston, and it ran great until I sold the car two years later.

  18. It was July 1st, and we were heading back to Vancouver. We all had to work the next day. Pulling the plug, stopped most of the smoke.

  19. Anybody who thinks "there are no rules in building a hotrod" clearly hasn't spent much time on the NEW HAMB. Around here rules are meant to be followed and adhered to, or judgement will be swift, followed by an even swifter banishment. It's kind of a shame, but the NEW HAMB is starting to become it's own oxymoron, following in the footsteps of "jumbo shrimp" or "free love".

    I BROKE THE RULES

For those of you that missed all this...I had posted a pic of a "poorly built" hot rod. The Mods deemed it "too rat roddy" and deleted it. There ARE rules and I broke one...I'm such a Rebel...;)

I'd love to "traditionalize" one of the new little triples: carbs, distributor, and a general absence of plastic.

  27. Yes there are rules for this traditional site, as the majority of us appreciate and respect.
As for personal taste in our own builds it has to be an individual thing..rules be Damned (posted of course on an appropriate site for that build).
