History Lets see your Chevy's of the 30s

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by themoose, Jan 16, 2021.

  1. As most of you already know I'm a Chevy fan and have always liked 30s styling the best. I've had owned at least three from that time period myself and not being much of a camera buff back in the day I only have pictures of two, my current 32 and one of my first builds a Hemi powered 39 coupe. I could kick myself for not taking more pictures but too late now . I'm sure most of you have done a much better of preserving history so let's see those pictures of your Chevys of the 30s

You might remember this one, Moose. The top picture is how it ended up. You and the gang did the bottom picture of what I had in mind. Thanks, again!

That '32 is absolutely gorgeous! Love the 2 tone. I'm a Chevy guy, too. That'll have them Ford guys droolin'! Too bad more of those didn't survive.

My first wasn't a 30's, it was a '40 coupe. I dropped a 413 Chrysler and Torqflite in it in 1968. Stock 413, but I thought it was the fastest car around, and it was quicker than most. Then after selling it in 1972 I went on a long dry spell. I always wished the '40 coupe was a '39 as I loved the grille of the '39 Chevs!
In 2019 at our local swap meet I came upon a '39 Chev Master Deluxe Passenger Coupe for sale cheap. Cheap because it was pretty rotted away, but it also had a large amount of spare parts inside the car, so I bought it.
After 18 months of work I got it on the road. The first 6 months were all spent replacing rotted metal, and then on to drivetrain. I built a 1990 SBC 350 4 bolt main roller motor. Backed with a 700R4 I already had, and an 8.8" Ford rear, with 3.73 posi. I narrowed a '58 Chev front axle, and converted it to disc brakes to replace the knee action control arm suspension up front. Sewed up old school black diamond pattern interior, and got all new glass, weatherstrip, and the correct sliding 1/4 windows.
Still needs paint, but I've been finalizing bodywork so it can be painted this spring I hope!

Man your 32 is tits! That's not Photoshopped is it? :)

  17. Yeah they had a high attrition rate because of the extensive use of wood. Left out in the elements the wood would rot and the sheet metal would find its way to the ground spelling the end. I got mine in 1972 from the original owner and the body and wood were in great shape with only a few small dents. I kept it that way until I felt like it didn't work well in modern day traffic with mechanical brakes an low horse power so I decided to make some changes . Now I thoroughly enjoy it.

  18. HaHa NO When I was building the car I didn't even know Photoshop existed. Here's a picture my wife took of me finishing off the paint job that I did in my garage. I made a spray booth by hanging plastic on all the walls and ceiling and put a fan in one window to pull clean air in and a hot air furnace filter in the other to keep the dust from coming in. I've painted a number of cars over the years so I had plenty of practice.

Moose ..... me and my '37 Chevy Sedan (1978 if I recall) I swapped in a Chevy 250 and 400 turbohydro and '57 Chevy rearend with 3:55 gears ... was my daily driver ... that original bench seat was the most comfortable seat ever.
