[IMG]My Dad had a shell station for a few years, early/mid 50's, corner of 76 street and National ave, West Allis Wi., a Kohls Store last time I was in that area. This picture looks like his, we lived in the house behind the station, brought up some memories of me handing out candy to customers, helping in garage (he had to babysit me as my Mom worked, 1953 I was 5)the tiny coke bottles in the vending machine, remember Dad flocking christmas trees, used that same vacuum cleaner to paint cars, these old pictures wake up my old brain in the AM with Coffee.

Emmas high res scan 096b lo.jpg My "Uncle Louie" Barron had this station. That's him on the right. I don't know where it was. Possibly Martinez, CA.

Would you know if this is the same Teixeira that had this famous Willys gasser back in the day? Not a very common name.

Fred Teixeira was a raisin farmer in Fresno, CA. He was an early day drag racer and in 1964 he started to build a Willys Drag Car and little did he know, became 4 time NHRA B/G Champion.

A far cry from the over-marketing world we live in now!

Great pictures. Only thing I can complain about, is the minimal amounts of inside shots. I remember full service garages having equipment to turn brakes, grind valves and seats, some even bored cylinders. And this was into the 60s. What a difference from today.

Only ruins remain today in Endee, New Mexico. The town was named for the nearby ND ranch and reportedly was quite a rowdy place when the ranch hands came to town. The population peaked at 147 in 1950 when the Endee Grocery and Garage was still thriving.

I can remember my grandparents' trading at a very small (maybe 2 pumps) station on San Leandro St. in Oakland, CA. It was owned by an African American man and his wife. I knew them as "Mr. and Miz Jones." The gas station was next to the Continental Can Company, where my father had been employed until being transferred to their new plant in neighboring San Leandro. Anyway, I have to assume that the Joneses probably extended credit to my grandparents when necessary. Eventually, the Joneses moved to a brand-new 76 Station on the corner of San Leandro St. and 66th Avenue, east of the Oakland Coliseum. The Joneses were good people, but I wasn't old enough to understand or appreciate such things then.
If anyone is familiar with this, you probably remember Graff's Grocery Store as well.
