This car started as a 4 door sedan. In the late 40's and early 50's that was all we had over here.
The Hudsons were imported by a company called Dalgetys which was a pastoral supply company and they were aimed at the wealthy grazier/farmer as a luxury vehicle that could also withstand the rigours of driving on our less than adequate country roads.
They were imported as "knockdown vehicles" with assembly done here using some local suppliers for some of the components. The Hudsons were notorious for rust in the subframes. They would be drivem over dusty roads that filled up all the cavaties in the subframes( a unibody car) and then when it rained the water got in and turned the dust to mud and rust.
The car we started with was very average. It was a 1948 Commodore long wheelbase 6 cylinder.I acquired doors and rear fenders from Bill Albright in Fontana CA. He is now deceased and his grandson or nephew(can't remember which) now runs the business as Vintage Coach still in Fontana with a huge collection of Hudson stuff. I met Bill back in 2003 and he was a grumpy old bugger. Maybe because he was on dialaysis a couple of times a week and knew he didn't have a long time left. He had an incredible collection of step downs and earlier Hudsons and didn't mind updating a few with later model V8's.
The car is actually on a late model Holden(1974) chassis from a Ute/Panel van utilising the independant front end and original steering and modified chassis at the rear with kickup etc.
We used the firewall from the Holden and stiched that into the Hudson to keep all Holden original steering, brake booster and MC. Have a few pictures of early build stages. I see in the 4th picture I still have dark hair!!!

That was an incredible amount of work and well thought out! I met the guy in Fontana a few years ago when I was considering a Hudson too. I asked the question about the long roof because I have seen two door versions with this long roof on them that looked exactly like what you created-unbelievable! I will say again, you have a beautifully executed kick ass Hudson, keep on enjoying it! Way smart move on the firewall swap too!
