64-65 Chevelle drag cars... Photo Thread!!!!

A '64..don't this one would be a Z16

 

The Z 16 396 didn't come out until 1965. Malcom Durham ran the Z 11 427 W engine pulled from his heavier 1963 Impala into the lighter fiber glassed front clip Chevelle, competing with the Ford Thunderbolts.

I just saw 3 Z-16's about 5 weeks ago. No pics.

 

For those that don't know what the Z-16 option was on the (SS only) 65 Chevelles.

An update on the one at the top of the page. It is close, but I had some health issues, (stroke) so it may have to wait until next year

Enclosed, two of my chevelles. The 64 I bought new in 1963, the first day they came out, Sept 21, 1963.
Best I could order was a three speed, 220 hp, Super Sport. Raced at conn Drag strip, many times.
Owned many chevelles since. Most known is my 1965 Chevelle super stock NHRA car, built frame up.

How about some details on the 65.

 

Hunnert Car Heads Up Event at Great Lakes Just about got her back together from painting.

 

The 65 was one of two super stock 1965 chevelles that I built, one pictured is the # 2 car.
It was built around 1976. It is a 327, t-10 trans, 6:17 rear (12 bolt). roll cage, 120 mph @ 11.00 approx.
1982 NHRA Summernationals class winner. Launch at 8600 rpm, shift at 7600 rpm. Raced against Don Bowels, SS/K. Still own the car, in storage. Enclosed a pic by Tom McCrea in MD.

 

A 6.17 gearset and those RPM's will make you go "hold on 327".
I never got serious with my 65, it had a 12.5/1 355 with a Super T-10 and 5.38's in the Olds rear, just a bracket racer, ended up selling it as a roller and putting the engine in my 65 ElCamino for one winter while rebuilding its 327, that was fun!
By the way, you may know this but GM toyed with offering the L76 engine in the 64 lineup.
Can you imagine running a light 64 sedan in stock class with a 327/365 hp engine.

 

I have a 64 2 dr sedan with a 383 stroker...yep it's fun

Yes, in my opinion they should be turned into the Better Business Beau. I really hate it when they do that. I think there are some other ones on here that do that to, we are here to see this stuff and then they block out the photos to go with the post, really burns my a$$. Sorry but that's how I feel!!!!!!!!
