I had never heard Mickey made heads for the Ford. I did hear about them from Pontiacs.

  3. IIRC, those weird pushrods proved to be problematic and are the main reason the idea died.

In those 'the only way to find out is to build it' days before computers could 'simulate' everything, all sorts of things turned up....

It's amazing that that car still exists in that condition and now it runs again with the wild engine it should have. Awesome! Thanks for posting this.

I had grabbed an old CC shot years ago.. can't seem to find the online article... I think it may be the same car.

The whole car is sheer excitement.

possible, but i believe the pushrod design, with the middle pushrod riding in the head like a valve guide would be quite strong. provided the lash was set properly. its been said mickey would shift the 427 hemi at 8500rpm.

Here goes from my 2019 post. Mickey Thompson 427 Ford and Pontiac Hemis used Chrysler Hemi valve covers. 4-12 sets were supposedly produced. Supposedly only three (3) of these cross ram manifolds were built and here are two (2), Galaxie and Fairlane.
It'd be great if you could post a video here so we could see and hear that beast running:D

I know of a few people who have one or more sets of the Pontiac heads, as well as aluminum engine blocks, manifolds, etc. What with all the one off or experimental parts that came out of M/T's shop, I've always wondered if they were set up to make the molds and tooling in house, or if all that got farmed out to a local foundry (and for that matter, what foundry did they use? It had to be a place with a lot of experience to be able to make complex things like cylinder heads and engine blocks.)

Man I miss Fritz. Id see him at the Long Beach swap meet..I made a point to stop and talk with him for a bit at each one. I bought lots of MT stuff from him over the years...most of it is gone. I had the pleasure of going through his old shop a couple years back. Here are a couple of shots..one regret is not going to his house and chatting him up for a few hours and recording it all for historical reasons.. 20210110_191853.jpg 20210110_191938.jpg 20171105_010354.jpg

The patterns to those heads and few castings are still around in So Cal owned by a dry lakes racer. At one time they were in the hands of master pattern maker and racer George Parker and after his passing his son put them on that auction site.

Just think of the R&D you could do to bring to market new hot rod parts for traditional machinery with a $BILLION$!!
