LB are you sure of that? It looks to me like he/she reversed the rear shackles and maybe put spacers between the front suspension and chassis. This was very common in the day. (man do I feel old now)

I agree with Pat I used to do this trick all the time on my 1951 Chevrolet Coupe rear shackles.
I also put metal spacers in between the coil springs on the front to raise it higher.

I agree with Pat as it was quite common back in the 60s. Deloy Naeb used an i-beam in the front of his record setting 58 in the 60s as did others. Both of my 62s are done the same way with spacers in front although I have the rear springs re-arched instead of reversing the shackles. Jim Vetrod reversed his shackles and put a spacer in the front suspension.

That's a serious go to war piece! All aluminum big block, vac pump, Accusump, electric water pump, enormous carb and the plug wires look like battery cables. What does the car weigh? Love it!

Guys I am trying to get this book project finished even though at times I regret ever starting the project. The manuscript has been finished for some time and I submitted it to a publisher who after reviewing it for months told me the topic is too limited for them as they would prefer C!, C2s and C3s. It has been enough of a project with just the solid axle cars.

My dilemma is using pictures with permission. if I could use pics from the HAMB without permission, then pictures would be a breeze but such is not life. To get around copyright issues I need permission to use photos. If any of you have any pictures that you own the rights to or took the photo I would appreciate any assistance possible. I probably have permission on 200 or so but I have some cars that I would love to put in the book from the 60s that I cannot due to copyright. I am especially weak on 1960 through 1964 and a few holes here and there.

I have a picture or two of Apricot Brandy, the 1954 that raced out of Ohio that I can use but I do not have any when it was painted black and when it was called the Stinger. If you know of any pics of the Stinger I could follow up on to get permission I am all ears. I understand the car has been recently restored and now resides in Ohio. It is possible the owners have a few older pics. Do any of you know who owns the car now?

Good Luck Jim, you have certainly got yourself a handful. I'm no help but certainly support your endeavor. Keep at it my friend, I'll buy a copy.

Scott, your excitement will pale in comparison to mine-just to know it is done. I have written articles before but never a book. I would rather it be a decent book or else I would just throw it together. It may be easier if it was my job and I could spend all day everyday, but it has been something I have done on the side and is ridiculously time consuming. If it were not for the necessity to give some kudos to the old Corvette drag racers I would have shelved the project long ago. Know I sound like a complainer but frustrated may be a more appropriate term. Sorry but just reaching out in case any of you are sitting on pictures that may be appropriate or if you know the present owners of Apricot Brandy.

I'll buy a copy. I grew up a few houses down from Apricot Brandy. I have some pics of the restored car 54 and maybe one in the black.paint. I would love to find a picture of his Metallic Red mid year Vette, I think it was a 64 Vette. Beautiful car he ran at Tri State, Edgewater among other tracks.

65pacecar, thanks that would be appreciated on the offer of pictures. Apricot Brandy was actually one of the most successful cars out there and deserves more than the one or two pictures I have. Thanks.

Just for point of reference here is a picture when it won class at Indy when it was called "The Stinger". Of course I have no permission to use this photo from the photographer or Indy if they own the copyright to it. Stinger 68 Indy 1.jpg

One idea, have you contacted the owners of Tri State and Edgewater for their archives? Tri State has closed but the land is still.owned by the family and it's for sale. Both tracks are ran by good people that may be able to help out. Apricot was a nice guy, I use to love it when he fired up the Vette in his garage or would chug it around the block with open headers. When my Dad built his Road Runner and fired it up A.B. came flying around the block to see where the noise was coming from. We had a ton of racers and hot rodders in that neighborhood.

D AND J Automotive out of the Cincinnati area may have some pics too, they did a lot of engine work for him.

The guy that tracked down the car and I believe restored it lives In the SW Ohio area. He is on a few Corvette Forums and a Hot Rodder forum (hotrodders.com) and always goes by 1930U as a username. He may have some information, he worked hard to locate the car..

Thanks, I tried contacting Edgewater without success-will try again. The user name will help. I no longer frequent the Corvette forums but will try and track him down thanks.

The Pizza Man car was the other really successful 6 cylinder Corvette National record holder. Fortunately it is owned by a friend so pictures of that car are a bit easier to come by. He also recently bought the Grassman/Nicholson/Wade 61 Corvette drag car. Looked up 1930u and he has not been active on the Corvette Forum or the Hot Rodder forum in over 10 years. Hopefully will still run into who owns the car now. I put out a couple of feelers over the last couple of weeks but no success yet.

While dreaming does anyone have any pics they own of Moroso's 61, Sam Cunningham's 61 or Dick Taylor's 57 or Skip Hess' 62? I have quite a few pics in my files but permission has been a bit scarce. I have Moroso's car when it was raced by Van Der Ley with permission. Put in a request to Rick Moroso on another site and hopefully that will go somewhere. Located the family that took some early nice pics and put in requests from them but not sure I will succeed with that.
