@Cyclone Kevin I sure wasn't aware of that. So I guess Pete owned it until Slover's bought everything?

Pete’s Coupe as most will attest will always be associated with Pete the 3rd, P&J’s , PC3G & even SO-CAL. Cris, was a caretaker of the Coupe & The Slovers are multi-decade caretakers of both coupes, the burple 39 and of course the P&J’s business legacy. “The CALIFORNIA Kid” lives on. Hey Bobwop,
In the H-Classifieds there is an ad that’s been up for a bit. It gives credit to an alternate builder, but it’s the Big Block CA.Kid II. I’m thinking it’s $60k. 60F0E30F-7452-4852-BFA9-858E3D73826C.jpeg 50561F31-F99E-4240-8D0C-B15A5C6CA50F.jpeg B1742F00-9A12-4A64-BA0D-1C48EA19B1ED.jpeg 3DBFD3A7-0115-4787-80E5-182E0DDE192B.jpeg
(It took me a little while to find this Feb 91 cover, I saw this Hot Rod in it’s early build stage @ P&J’s Grandview), This was initially built by Pete & Jake’s HRP’s in Grandview, MO. Ya might want to check it out.
Personally I’d be making some changes to it in order to better represent its predecessor.
    CK.

Any idea if that's Tom and Trudy Berden's (spelling??) maroon '40 Delivery next to the California Kid @Cyclone Kevin?

  5. I'm sure that's Tom Burden's 40.
C'mon Ryan, I hope you're not teaching spelling.:):):)

I am getting started on the chassis. Not much to do as @bobwop provided an excellent foundation. Steering, Pedals, Brakes, Etc need to be ironed out but that shouldn't take too long.

So.............I have purposely avoided posting anything on this thread, but in respect to previous owners of "my kid", I should put something down, or then again maybe not.
Well here it goes and I'll just take my lumps.
Of course the CK is most likely number one in popularity of the model 40 arena and I entirely support that. Great history, great builder, just great all around.
There was no thought of it, (CK) when I bought and created mine, I really didn't have a perfect clue or concept in mind when doing all that, I just knew it was going to be a open wheel chopped '34 with a hemi If I could manage to find one that my meager resources, (for cars), would withstand. Many have chewed my ass for going the hi-boy route and I respect that, but, well that reasoning has been hashed over time and again here so that's that.
Mine doesn't begin to measure up to the CK in any way other than it's a model 40 chopped coupe and its black. I'd like my "A" pillars leaned back also and if I were 61 instead of 81 that would get done.
So okay now I have paid homage to what is the best thought of model 40 hot rod cope ever, ( not a sarcastic comment here, meant in true 100% true respect) I'll just shut the --- up and go to the shop with the 34 Ford Coupe "My Kid". History on line a Kustomrama, google," Jerry Bergs 34 Ford Coupe"

And oh yeah, no pictures because my kid is not HAMB friendly due to Jag suspension under it.
Pictures via a PM if you would like to see it. (pretty damned pretentious of me, sorry bout that.)

I just want to say that I am very appreciative to my pal Verno30 for finding the time and strength to get back on this project. Vern unexpectedly lost his Father, and best friend, last year and has been dealing with all that is involved. I am not in a rush and truly wish for Vern to take this project to the finish line. We will outsource paint and interior along the way. The most important thing about this build is that my pal Vern is working on the Kid. In my mind, this car will be a tribute to his Father. Who was one heck of a hotrodder himself.

Body is mounted. Steering is complete. Pedals are figured out. Tank and Fenders are in/on.

I'm waiting on some parts and with the holidays, don't expect an update until after the first of the year. 20201108_135657.jpeg 20201108_135618.jpeg 20201108_135638.jpeg

We thought we could get a pair of covered running boards from C&G Ford. But they are out of stock indefinitely.

Can anyone offer a source for running boards?

I will resume working on The Kid in mid to late January.

In the meantime, everyone stay safe and healthy.

    Happy New Year.

We found a set of nice running boards.
Vern had Nathan Gentry punch louvers in the tail pan.
A hood is on order from Rootlieb.

Have we mentioned the chassis is Genie 34 Ford? With numbers matching title!

Any chance of getting pix of the inside of the body you ordered? Looks “spot on” on top of that chassis ..

Sure, when I get it back in my shop, I will kick out some pictures of the inside. It's in cold storage now keeping my Anglia and '55 company.
