When I found my '39 Chev at the swap meet in 2019 I was blinded by my 5 decade desire to own a '39 Chev coupe. I saw all the rusted and rotted metal, but really didn't realize the magnitude of the task ahead of me. Everything in the bottom 4" of the car was rotted away, but the frame it sat on was perfect! So I jumped on the low price, and took it home.

It did have a pair of good rear fenders that someone had already welded new edges along the entire length, so they didn't need much. The glass front clip turned out to be a nightmare of ill fitting garbage, and after weeks of trying to rework it, I tossed it out of the shop and bought a pair of steel fenders I found locally.
Then it was new floors, rockers, lower doors inside and out. New lower quarters, tail panel, tool drop, lower cowl, toe boards, etc., etc.

And the maiden voyage 1250 mile trip 18 months later.

Hoping for paint this winter, or spring.

Pictures of my 48 Plymouth coupe.
Where it started from, loaded up to bring home, and what shape it was really in.
I got the car in the spring of 2011. In the Oct 2011 the truck pulling the trailer in the pictures got totaled, the coupe was road worthy in April 2012.
I don't have any pictures of it after I first got it running, but my avatar is the car in 2016.
The last 2 are the car is current condition. Gene

  16. @alanp561 Don’t know who got that sign.
    The rest of the story.
A friend, Michael Driskell (ThirdGen Automotive) actually went down to Culleoka to appraise this and a 34 pickup for an estate sale auction. He said that there were people there trying to buy the sedan before the auction for less than his appraisal. He offered his appraisal and bought it. I was at the Nats in L’ville when I found out about it, and drove straight to McMinnville and gave him a deposit and a hand shake. Brought it home shortly thereafter.
