Well, 2020 has been a challenge to say the least. Im not superstitious but this New Years Eve and New Year's Day will be different than last years.

Changing up New Years Eve location, shooting off fireworks to warn off any evil spirits and doing a News Years Day cruise. All things slightly different then last year. Here is to a healthy and prosperous 2021.

Mine will be the same as it has been for many years now, hope I stay awake to see the ball come down on TV in New York City. No cruising ever As I've lived in Wisconsin all my life, now Winter in AZ. but no hobby car here, might have dinner on deck, can't beat Az. Winter weather IMO, maybe next year I'll get one of my cars here.

Work out in the garage. Stay home ,but this year will be different! Got a new grill that does not go on a car but you have to cook on. So I told my young son that that is his new job. So Andy, we will be eating off the grill until he moves out.

Might be still up on the HAMB, might be in the bed asleep, don't know yet. Don't get into celebrations much anymore. New Years is just another day, hopefully on the right side of the grass.....

A couple beers, a couple cigars for me...Bonnie asleep on the couch. Wake her up at about midnight to come to bed. Try to get "lucky"...and get shot down. The exact same routine as the other 364 days of the year.:(

  6. After watching the ball drop on the eve, Our New Year's day tradition is to have black-eyed peas with homemade stewed tomatoes, and collard greens. Supposed to bring you good luck. I guess it worked in 2020, because we stayed healthy.

  7. Ready for some bad news?Even when they move out...a lot of times they keep coming back!

I foresee next year being even worse than this one so I won't be making any new traditions other than my normal pessimism .

I always eat tamales on January 1. I did not have any this past January 1. Guess it's all my fault. I WILL definitely be having tamales next Friday.

I'm afraid I have to agree. Too many things happened/happening for us to ever get back to normal:(

2021 Hershey Swap Meet Reservations arrived today! That looks like a return to normal for 2021. Hope to have a clean basement and 1/2 of the garage by New Years, so I can start all over again. Best wishes for 2021 everyone!

Only tradition I ever had lasted a short while, years ago used to go to Fremont on New Year’s Day and watch the Nitro bowl, but since the closed Bay Lands...I got nothing

    Hello,

For a long time, cruising down E. Colorado Blvd. was the coolest thing to do on those long New Year’s Eve nights. It won’t be happening this year as the New Years Day Rose Parade has been cancelled due to the pandemic. But, from year’s past, it was the cruising on New Year’s Eve that was different than just sitting around in a party, waiting for the ball to drop. (Yes, that did happen later on in the late evening.)
    upload_2020-12-30_4-48-27.png
Cruising in front of a captive audience was so cool. There were tons of people camped out on the grass median and on corners, staking out their spot for the next morning’s giant, world wide parade. The bleachers were already put up, but the action was on the curbside grass/sidewalk areas. When there were a lot of cars, the bantering and greetings were abundant with the people sitting and freezing their buns off, while wrapped up in blankets. Crazy people do crazy stuff.

The sight of hot rods was cool, but by the time of the popularity of custom motorcycles arrived on the scene, that was just another sound of rumbling down the historic street. It wasn’t until much later that we found out E. Colorado Blvd was part of the Historic Route 66 as it blasted through the Los Angeles area on its way to the ocean at Santa Monica.

For some reason, the Rose Parade has never been cancelled. (UNTIL THIS YEAR) despite the rainy/snowy weather prior to the big New Years Day event, the night before usually had very cold weather or actually drizzled. The rain or drizzle did not stop those crazy campers from staking out their spots along E. Colorado Boulevard. But, the long trail of hot rods and custom motorcycles went down on those drizzle days and nights. At least hot rodders and motorcyclists have some sense to stay out of the rain or heavy drizzle. When our cars were cruising down the boulevard, it was fine.

But many years later when our custom motorcycle was ready to make the cruise, it was a heavy drizzle. The odd thing was earlier in the day, I had just taken photos of a lowered race motorcycle with a huge motor and an aluminum spoiler on the front. It was a first and one of a kind. They made the run that New Year’s Eve down Colorado Boulevard, despite the weather. We missed out. Our run from the OC was going to be a bit too much during the light rain all the way to Pasadena and back. A couple of soaked rats did not sound appealing to either of us at the time.

We have been at many Rose Bowl Games in perfectly dry weather, while the night before was a downpour or drizzle all day. The Rose Parade and New Year’s Day activities has something going on with the pleasant So Cal weather man/women for a great showing.

I like to start the new year off with fresh money in my pocket, not that nasty old stuff you've been carrying around with that crumbling condom and faded visa receipts. Yep a nice clean wallet is a thing of beauty and there's no better, easier or faster way to clean it out than the nearby Indian Casino.

Plus, with everything in the state shut down...again, the casino is the only place in town with restaurants and indoor drinking. Seems they don't have to listen to our gubenor.

Used to drink until I barfed. Now I just eat until I barf. It's not nearly as much fun but at least I know where I am when I wake up.

Well, I never make resolutions, but several of my friends left this year. Three in the last month, old age is hitting home as a real reality, knowing I got maybe 20 years to spend it all, live it up, and enjoy the fact that being near death a couple times, I'm still here.
I want to simplify my life, do some shit for me, I always been the family guy, never asked for me, but now, it's my time for a few things.

I bought a motorcycle last summer.
    Quit building for others.
    More driving my 36.
Gonna buy my best buddies 36 chev pickup, he don't need it no more, means something to me, I built it. His widow agrees.
    Bonneville.
Got a two year old brand new travel trailer sitting in my pole barn I bought two years ago, my wife has been sick, hopefully we're done with that. Gonna load her up and go.
Gonna start to unload my hoard, good stuff to me, junk to those who may have to deal with it.
Here's to 2021 boys and girls, lets make it the best year ever. LeRoy.

  27. Gotta eat cooked cabbage on new year's day, supposed to bring you wealth all year long. But new year's eve will be spent on a firetruck, running car wrecks all night  don't drink and drive (psa):D

My wife and I will probably go out for supper around 5pm, we will be home by 6. Then we will watch some stupid movie, have some cheese and crackers & a Pepsi. Then we may watch another dumb movie, which should bring us to around midnight. We will watch the ball drop, and we will go to bed.

The same process as the last 10 years or so.

What is this "lucky" you speak of? ;) I think my wife and I must be virgins again by now... Gene

Nothing exciting here....don't do the party thing anymore. Wife and I will have some snack food, drink some coffee and hopefully not fall asleep before midnight.

Well had a nice wild night PLANNED at some "entertainment venues" partying with the ladies until 4-5 am until YESTERDAY when some china virus cases popped up several provences away and our local powers that be SHUT EVERYTHING down once again even though we haven't had a single case in OVER A YEAR. So just sitting sulking in front of my monitor perusing the HAMB.
