Long before photographs were the norm in advertising the automobile manufacturers relied on graphic artist to draw and paint Detroit's newest offerings.

These artist renderings portrayed the newest and best motoring down the highway's, at the market or just sitting in a driveway.

I collect Chevrolet advertising and dealer items. sadly most of my collection is digital only. I have 5 out of the 7 seen here. these posters hung in dealerships, they measure 36 X 24. I'm sure most were tossed when the new cars came out.

I'm still looking for the 4 door sedan and the 2 door fleetline if anyone has one.

 

Well, this isn't exactly what you are looking for here, but a friend of ours is a pretty decent artist. I showed him some pics of our race truck and he thought there was a cool painting in there somewhere. Here's what he came up with.

 

they must not have made dealership posters with the car on them for 1950, if they did I would have come across a few.
I had these 51's for a while. they were smaller than the poster sized 1949's.

Back in the late 50's here in Australia we used to buy the Saturday Evening Post just to get the car adds for the current US cars, most of which were never sold here. The mag was demolished for the car posters which were stuck on the bedroom wall to enjoy. My favorite models were the Pontiacs whose artwork was done by VK and AF if my memory serves me correctly.

 

Can’t resist. Have this hanging on the wall as a reminder of the “the one that got away”. Or maybe to be consistent with the ad: the error of selling rather than holding.
