I ran Moons with wide whites on my slammed '66 Riviera. I didn't want to drill into the chrome road wheels , so I got a set of plastic snap on covers and riveted the discs to those. I sure wish that had some pics.

The only pair I ever bought was for a production company, to go on a vehicle in the process of being completed as a clone for one left behind on the East Coast when the company came back to California. They were the snap on variety to avoid damaging the leased vehicle's rims. My personal opinion is that Dean Moon came up with one helluva mousetrap when he came out with the originals, and when I build my salt flat car you can bet I'll have a pair fastened on the wheels of it. Every little bit helps, even if it's only in the looks department. Also, I see that a big-trucks are now using similar devices along with some crude streamlining to up their fuel mileage. Maybe they should hire Thom Taylor to design the next Peterbilt. I remember he had a newer Chevy Wagon with Moon discs on it. Wonder if he's a HAMBer? Love to see some of his renderings on here. (Even though I know he's a hired gun and does it for the $$$$$!)

That "A" was (is?) cool, especially at a time when traditional style cars were in the minority. Moon discs really fit the car - one of my favorites at the '77 Nats!

  11. Had a set on my 50 Chevy back in the day...Found one survivor in my storage shed and made this for my garage wall...
All the images are cars I own or once owned.

I've always liked Moon discs on the right cars. They don't work on everything, but when they do....
Here are a few shots I've taken over the years:

Another one from the '77 Nats:
    77nats011_tg11.jpg

The '82 Nats. This white 5-window was built by a friend of mine, sold to another friend and changed hands at the Nats that year. Wound up in Iowa, traded for a chopped deuce sedan. (Check out what's parked behind it!) 82nats_51_900.jpg
Another one from the '82 Nats; gotta love those "M:):)N" discs on a yellow hotrod!

  14. In the 50's these were called Bonneville disks or Racing Disks. They were popular in So Cal around 57 to 59 then gone. These are the original style "Full Moons" .

I had them on one of my 60 Olds. Sometimes I think I was the only one that liked them. Actually, I was too cheap to buy rims. Screenshot_20201226-101833_1.png Screenshot_20201226-101852_1.png

I like them on race, or street / strip cars the best.

  23. Come to think of it this old heap had moon discs on the front.

In the Kansas City area they used to say that if you can only afford two good wheels they go on the back. So this one fit that idea really well. LOL

I know 2 people who run them. One is a young dude with '52 Cadillac that had them when he got the car. I've offered him a pair of 61 Caddy caps for free, the rears are hidden by skirts.
The other is a '36 3W, owned by a miser who has the wealth of King Croesus, yet cultivates an image of abject poverty. Last time the wheels were off I commented to him that the car would look cool with the black steelies and acorn nuts. " Are you kidding? I ain't spendin' $80 bucks for shiny lug nuts!
They should be prohibited from being transported out of Tooele County.

My HS ride, a '49, picture taken in '57 with my mom wondering what I was working on now. I ran these for awhile then went to dog-dish caps and beauty rings on painted wheels. These were the "in" thing to run in So-Cal back then. b. '49 in progress.jpg
