Question for the english ford crowd. Can a 48' Prefect be turned into an Anglia by swapping in the longer Anglia doors and doing the other required bodywork to finish the job? Can't find glass 4 door front doors, but 2 door doors are available.

Seems like cutting Anglia doors to Prefect width might be the better solution.

Prefects are longer than Anglias. So even once you convert them to a 2 door, they'll still not look quite like a factory Anglia 2 door. The Anglias were a 90" wheelbase, and Prefects were a 94" wheelbase.
Austin cars of the same era used the same wheelbase and chassis for a 2 dr. and a 4 dr. which was 89" before 1948 in the A8 and A10, and 92.5" for the A40 1947 on.

  11. Thats a cool conversion, thanks for sharing

Thought about that with the glass doors, but then think I would like the longer doors for getting in and out. Just want to make sure Anglia doors fit the lines of the prefect roof.

  13. Which company is doing glass doors? I would think you could get the proportions right with an extra door if you could buy a 3rd. Make em longer than a stock 2dr and shorten up the qtr window area? It would take some photoshopping to see

Found a couple places online. Not real worried about proportions, my 55' Studebaker has some screwed up proportions. If I did something right, my buddies would be worried about me... Besides, most people would never have any idea a prefect 4 door had been changed to a 2 door. DSC_0319.JPG

    Beside what...
Studebaker themselves did the two door-four door swap. They didn't have the money to make proper two door AND for door cars, so...they made filler panels, and different door widths. much cheaper that way.
If you look at the interior of the car above, you'll see that the panel behind the door is just a filler panel. You may still even be able to buy them.

A lot of guys here are making one car out of other cars. Nothing wrong with that as long as you don't try to lie to the next owner of said car..!

    A couple more. Not sure if this is better than 4 into a 2 door way to go. tapatalk_1608893056227.jpeg tapatalk_1608893064073.jpeg tapatalk_1608893315050.jpeg tapatalk_1608893297476.jpeg tapatalk_1608893182233.jpeg tapatalk_1608892944776.jpeg

  25. This thread reminded me that i actually had a slantback Anglia 25 odd years ago . I still have the front and rear axles and wheels.. Might use them one day . Sold the car to a street rodder the same 25 years ago .

  26. Common title is 1938/1939 Ford Anglia 8, Fanatic title is Ford E04A. Bumpers are much sought after . Same for the one-hole grille and bug-eye headlight lens..

I could be mistaken but it is my understanding that the Prefect doors, which are very similar but shorter than their close cousins (Anglia / Popular), are the same as the commercials doors (Thames / Fordson van). These vans are reproduced in the UK in 'glass and I'd imagine the doors are available separately. I know the creator of the original moulds of the repops (now sold on, but still being used) and can obtain further info if of interest. Or just go to the current source?

Well while searching the net I stumbled across my car and thought that I would post an update. It is slowly progressing but kids and life are slowing it down a little. Have interior floor done, seats nearly mounted and working on a flip front and wider rear guards at the moment
