I don't know how to pull foward my introduction thread so here's the link. There's a lot more pictures and stuff; https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/newbie-from-tacoma.1196756/ Maybe admin can help. Anywho, I have a 62 Falcon Futura project. The car used to be an 80's drag car. I'm working on customizing it and detuning for cruising. I`m also working on making it handle great. And pointers or suggestions are always welcome.
Tore the engine apart and inspected it. Cleaned up the engine compartment for paint. Had to do some cutting / welding to make room for headers. Got the grill, headlight covers and tail lights powder coated. Next thing is to get my Global West front suspension assembled! View attachment 4899525 View attachment 4899525
Looking good! I'm liking the '62 Futuras, these days. There's one in a backyard in the neighborhood that maybe I'll get someday. I thought those were Honda Trail 90s, till I zoomed in. Foreign plate? Looks good with the whitewall.
The tail lights are 63 also. It's going to have a few mix and match parts here and there. I'm installing '66 Mustang seats.
That engine bay brace looks like a nice stout piece. Where did you get it from? It would like one for my 60 Comet wagon.
When I first brought the Falcon home, a buddy and I got it to run for a bit. We changed the oil, put on a carb, adjusted the valves and added race fuel. After sitting for 30 years it fired up! Sounds healthy! And yes I know the carb is on backwards
Nice, we recently sold our '64 Falcon Futura here in Australia. Was a nice car and owned it for over 28 years. . Good luck with the project.
Not looking forward to the suspension install. Just going to go slow and take my time. I want my Falcon to handle as good as it looks. I went with a Global West Suspension (https://www.globalwest.net/) They're a bit on the spendy side and the wait time was a few months, but going to be worth it!
Jay t, your post bothered me, so I located a 62 grill. The question now is which one would look better? I like them both. The 62 is on top, 63 bottom. I'd get the correct headlight doors for the 63. What do you guys think? Thanks.
I like the 63 grill, but I am bias as I have a 63 Ranchero. Nice build by the way, I like that you are doing upgrades on the original ft. suspension over a MII remove the spring towers approach. B
I'm digging your car. I'd bet it'll look great...with the '63 grille. It's simpler and cleaner looking.
63. A neighbor had a 66 GT350 that he wrapped around a telephone pole. I had a 62 Falcon that handled really bad. The only thing he wanted to keep out of the 350 beside the engine and tranny was the quarter panel windows that didn't break. I took the gas tank out of the Falcon and bolted the Mustang tank right back in using the same holes. Same with the front sway bar. Unbolted the weenie Falcon bar and bolted the 350 bar right back in. That Falcon wouldn't get out of it's own way but it cornered like a bear.
Thanks everyone for the input on the grill, it is most appreciated. I'm going to start installing my new front suspension this weeked and need advice on which front shocks to use. I'm not very knowledgeable in this area. I've looked at several, from inexpensive to very expensive. I would really like a shock that compliments the handling aspects of the suspension. I like to draw from others knowledge and experience. Below are some of the shocks I'm considering. Thanks. Ford Aluminum Non-Adjustable Front Shock, 41-68700-1 ALT #: 64-68700 1960-65 Ford - Falcon, Front Bilstein Shock Absorbers KYB Gas-A-Just Monotube Shocks KG4505 Bilstein B6 Performance Series Shocks and Struts 24-009492
I think QA1 is more drag-race oriented. KYB is not a bad economy shock for an everyday driver. Koni? I'm leaning towards the yellow Bilsteins, but I would ask Global West what they think will work best with the global West kit.
