IMG_2864.JPG IMG_2866.JPG I have had this car for 1 year already and it has been a steep learning curve. It is a build from the late 50s I think. I have it running pretty well on the 3 97s with a progressive linkage. I have been a bystander for many years on the H.A.M.B. and decided I need to step up!

Wow, nice roadster! Do you have any more pictures of it?... it looks like it's got all the right parts and a great stance!

Here is what I have determined so far. I had the car running well on 3x2s with a progressive linkage. It was not burning much oil and did not get hot with a new Walker radiator. I was putting short trips on it because I knew the motor was old. On my last trip it started running ruff and would not idle. Limping home I started troubleshooting. Fuel pump ok, coil ok, changed condenser, still will not idle below 1400-1500 rpm. Pulled distributer reset points and checked overall mechanics, seemed fine. Still will not idle and run smooth for a minute or so with the choke out, that holds idle at above 1400,then it shutters for a bit and smoothies out again. I think something has changed and the distributer is advancing the time enough to keep it running.
I have done several compression tests and the compression is good maybe too good. At 125-135 maybe the cam is flat and it is not releasing enough pressure between strokes?
This is all I know for now. I am waiting for a e fire distributer if that does not help [ I am not holding much hope] the motor is coming out.

[IMG]Here are some pictures from working on my bushed paint job. I really wanted to try to keep what I do to the car similar to how they would have done in their garage back in the 50s

Great looking ride! Double check the coil. Mine had the same symptoms when it warmed up. Rebuilt the coil and now it’s much better. Just my $0.02

Still not right but yesterday as I was running the motor and looking for clues I found a crack in the cap. The fan is very close to the cap and about every 20 or so (I did not count) they sink up and a spark jumps across. Time for a new cap.

Great looking A. Why not leave on the fenders? The dropped headlight bar and big and littles look classic. Are you sure it's not a '28? Hard to see but it looks like the single taillight is mounted on the left rear of the body?

Yes Ned is right, all model A had single rear light on right side. early 28's had the mount on the body, then later they moved over to fender mount.

Here is a pic of the mounting bracket. I am not sure what it is off of but someone recognized it. I can not remember what they said.

That's how the tail light was mounted on the early 1928 bodies. Looks like the bracket has been modified (shortened) somewhat. By '29 they were mounted on the fender. No outside door handles was another '28 feature.

  26. Your tail light is a very early 1928 AR model

Not to belabor the point, but my January '29 roadster had a single body mounted taillight and it had outside door handles. I think they stopped making those body mounted taillights just a little later in early '29.

New cap and points. Still running poorly. I have the timing advanced as far as i can, it runs but still has no low end. I put a vacuum gauge on it and at idle it only has 5-8-5-9-4 psi. The needle is all over the place. At 2000 RPM it stabilizes but is still only up around 14 psi. I think my valve guides are gone. Is there a way to check this? I should probably pull the intake and see, one may have failed while I was driving. This would explained why it started to act up. The compression is good but as i think about it bad guides would not show on a compression test would it?
