This is my good Friends 54 plymouth that he has owned for about 5 years. Its a very rust free car, inline 6 with coloum shift. He wants to change out the transmission fluid but theres no transmission dipstick tube anywhere. So, the question is, hows it done? I crawled under the car and saw 2 bolts, one over another one the passenger side of the transmission. Is that were the fluid goes in and out of? I would apreciate any advise
if its fluid drive the torque converter gets oil from the mtr if i recall . trans fills like a normal manual , which it is .did mine 30 yrs ago and still trouble free . hard to do burnouts though !
No emblem on lower right edge of deck lid tells us it's a 3 speed w/o OD. The 2 ''bolts'' are the drain & fill plugs. There's no such thing as a Fluid Drive Plymouth, but in '53, they graced us with Hy-Drive. Be very happy his isn't one of those ....
i didnt think ply. had fluid drive . so the fill drain is just like most 3 spd ? overdrive should get 20+ mpg anyway !!
Hi. Great looking ride. Tell your friend to check out www.faxonatolit.com and inquire about either or both reprints of te owners or shop manuals for his ride. Money well spent. Jimmie
