I picked up a set of the F2 brakes on Instagram a bit ago based on the tip from neilswheels. Just picked up this entire front end from a 56 f1 for $75 from 1oldtimer sending me an offerup post. The guy lived 3 blocks away from me!!!! Now I have options. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm gonna re-read the link from neilswheels and then see if I can source parts easily enough. If they're on rockauto, I think the big brakes are the ticket. We'll see. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Those look clean, a rebuilt kit for the wheel cylinders, clean up the drums, new bearings/seal and your in business. Here's the F100 brake tech week article. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/brakes-f100-brakes-on-37-to-48-ford-spindles.5877/ There are 2 wheel seals for this conversion and everything I read only talked about 1. You need to measure the seal hub on the spindle, 1 1/2" is the National 450461 (in all the articles), if it's 1 9/16" then you need a National 473441. If you have the wrong seal it won't go on the last 1/4" or so, you can force it but it drags bad and will most likely waste your seal.
My cousin has 2 40 lincoln zephyrs. One is a ragtop with a Yblock!! He didn't have any spare brakes, though. I DO have a set of Airheart disk brakes, but they won't be practical for street use. I saved my banjo for a 27 T coupe that my dad has. We'll see if I ever get to it. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Next door George is on my ass. Final mounted the motor. Headers are getting built! Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
How are you using those tapered tubes? Are you building 4 into 1 lakester style? It looks like they're heading for the opening in the inner fender and outside the frame.
Exactly! Most of the tube gets cutoff down to about 2 3/4 which I'll tap down to a 2.5" pipe that goes down under the running board. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Wow, look at all that room in there for headers, wish i'd had that luxury, making equal length long tube headers didnt help tho. Looking forward to seeing how yours turn out
Mine will be equal length, too! Not really. I won'tmake enough power to notice. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I thought so. Neighbor George and Evel Jake were making headway on them yesterday while I tried to organize and clean for bigger surfboards and more skateboards after Christmas. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
A brakleen can gave up it's ghost to plug the exhaust crossover. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The left bank head has a buggered thread I need to address. This car sucks. Sent from my SM-A505U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Finally finished the headers and the pipes. Got a trick up my sleeve for the outlets. Haven’t been on here in a while after switching phones, but I think I’m back.
So I think I decided to go with the F2 brake setup. I wanted to source generic replacement buick drums since I don’t care about fins and I found iron replacements on RockAuto. Payday tomorrow and I went back on and they’re gone! And Buick guys out there that know where to get stock replacement drums?
I crossed the buick drums to be the same as all pre 72 Pontiac dimensions (other than bolt pattern) and am having trouble even finding those listed at NAPA or Oreilly! Do BOP owners usually have this much trouble getting drums? I found a set for 66 GTO on Rock
Was waiting for the app to work again♂️. Next door George knocked out my coil bracket for me and the boy wanted to assist in a few repairs to threads.
I have done a bit since my last update. Fuel line is finished and the rest of the exhaust is nearly done except for the tips. Decided on 56 F100 brakes and they are on there now
Have just read right through, lovely car & I like the way you are approaching it! F2 brakes, are they 12x2"? Will subscribe & follow along!
Yes. 12X2.5" to make full use of the buick drum surface I learned about it here from neilswheels. He linked an article on this thread somewhere. I bought the loaded backing plates and started looking for replacement Buick drums (just iron replacemnets that I could modify). I found NOBODY seems to make replacement drums for Buicks. I didn't care about the fins or that stuff since it's a fendered car. I then started trying to find replacement parts for the F2 brakes and found, while available, they aren't what I would call "readily" available. After picking up a set of Buick drums I realized I was in as deep as just buying a set of Lincoln brakes from Speedway brand new. I had the F1 setup and all the parts were about $100 total, and since my 58 F100 stopped just fine, and I'm using a booster, I threw up my hands and went with those. I still have the other setup in case I change my mind later.
Lookin' good man! Keep plugging away. Love the name! We're reading the Chronicles of Narnia with the kids. Also, been tinkering with this 39 I picked up last year.
