Just for general discussion. I have always had alot of respect for the customs of the early 60s. And when I say customs, I am thinking more along the lines of the Ed Roth Style Customs. Like the Beatnick Bandit or the Orbitron. Not even to scratch the surface on his motor cycle builds. I wondered if anyone out there has built a custom aka the Roth Influence or is this something that is not really on the radar these days? As I talked to a cousin about it the other day, I am not sure how you could build one without copying to some degree what Roth did? Technically we have more at our disposal these days then Roth did for sure, granted the bubble canopy always fun to fabricate.
Yeah they are here and there. @Moriarity has probably had his hands in more or those projects that the rest of us combined however
Yeah, I built the futurian using Roth’s plaster and vermiculite buck method. I also built the mold for blowing a one off bubble. ( I just couldn’t see putting one of those round store bought bubbles on it)
here is some more info on it https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...uild-thread-on-my-bubbletop-futurian.1137851/
Man...Mark and all his cool crap. He can ruin just about any thread. As Always, a pleasure to see pics.
There are few others on here. Search for "Atomic Punk". I think Doc Frankenstein was building something cool awhile back, too. I think there's also a bubbletop thread somewhere.
Spritz by Fritz is currently building a Beatnik Bandit clone. There are a few videos on his Youtube about it, as well as some about other cars/projects.
Superb work! I have a friend close to you in Zimmerman. Well close for Minnesota! Truly builds of love to want to do it for sure. Its kind of like trying to paint the Mona Lisa or something is it not? The part I would find hard is not to copy the work.
My tribute to Road Agent, based on a Beetle and named Agent Thor ( anagram of Roth) Street legal (with some poetic licence) and a blast to drive!! Agreed it hard not to copy, but I guess as long as you don't try to sell it as 'your' original design and acknowledge Ed's talent/body of work, I believe its okay.
Check out my profile pic. That's my C Cab. Was on the road with 4cyl up front, now changed to rear mount 1300cc Mini power, but is a stalled project while I work on my VW. There's an old thread on it here somewhere.
I'm here from Rods n Sods forum where I saw your Road Agent tribute build blog. Absolutely brilliant!
