About a year ago I posted a couple of pictures of my ‘64 Cyclone in the mock up stage. I have spent the past year assembling it, I was able to make it drivable by early August of this year. (2020)
It now has about 400 miles on it which for me is exciting because I last drove this car in 1980! (I have owned it since ‘68)
So here is how it turned out:

What a BEAUTY you turned out. That garage is pretty spiffy too. :)

Is it a Cleveland? can't recall ever seeing flat top SBF valve covers.

Thank you for the kind words. The engine is a ‘70 Boss 302 block, crank, rods, with aluminum heads, roller cam and lifters topped by a Shelby dual quad intake and two Holley’s. The basic body is stock looking but every mechanical component has been changed. I also built a Winters aluminum 9” for it.

Actually the pictures are of two different cars, well almost....
The ‘64 blown/injected Comet was converted to the ‘65 body style with the Cammer engine set back under the cowl. They were both direct drive, no transmission. That is why the ‘64 Christman comets that you see now a day are not real, they are tribute cars. (Although one for sure is very well executed)

Understand the bigger "doghouse" in the picture above. All I tried to steal was the top picture from another post, but all three came together..!
And they ran in the B/FD class for a year or two, maybe three.

Hello. This is my car. It now a 10 second family hauler with larger heads, cam and a little nitrous on the 393w stroker. I mini-tubbed it and added a roll bar since that picture.

This FE powered Comet was in the HAMB classifieds (2019), would loved to have pulled the trigger however I'd already purchased a car.

1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone B/FX drag car. 50 Comet drag units were ordered by Lincoln-Mercury and built by Bill Stroppe in Long Beach, California, beyond the eight A/FX Comets equipped with the 427 engine.

This is the proper type hood and scoop for a Comet. [IMG]

Yes I know but the "proper" I referred to is that the tear-drop seems and looks correct for any FoMoCo car.

I hate to disagree but neither is true. The first Comet A/FX hoods were also the bubble type, during the race season the dual scoop hood was developed and distributed to the car owners by FoMoCo. Tbolts kept the bubble design. The dual scoop hood in the photo of the white car is a reproduction and is not like the original Plaza Glas manufactured hoods made for the Comets in 1964. Attached are photos of a hood that was pulled from an original Plaza hood, the differences are the indent for the hood ornament and the fact that there is an ornament in place. The underside air plenum on the repo hoods are completely different from original, the Plaza hoods were made using a three piece mold, reproduction used a top and bottom mold.
Here are a couple of photos of how the Plaza hood looked, note the parting lines from the three piece mold. This is the hood that is on the Comet in my avatar and was made using the mold from an original Plaza hood. (The Tom Coward A/FX car) The pictures were taken during construction of the car.
