1955 Hank Rogers Sr. in the Steffen Offy #10 at Trenton,NJ. (Walt Imlay Photo From The Ron Heddendorf Collection).
This Lee Harvey Photo shows the boys at play on the Culver City oval back in May 1949. Car number 42 is “Cowboy” Jimmy Bryan. In number 10 is Bob Barker and on the inside in number 24 is Bill Homier. All three cars are Kurtis-Kraft built Midgets.
Long before he became the owner of Bell Auto Parts, Roy Richter was an accomplished fabricator and built some beautiful and fast cars. This could possibly be his most famous build as it was the first Midget we’ve documented built with both a rounded nose and headrest as a unit instead of a modification or ad-on. The car’s first owner thought it was a dog but the second owner, Sam Hanks, proved him wrong. After the war, Sam made over $50,000 in one year with the car, not bad when the prevailing wage was around a buck an hour. This photo was snapped off the roof of the building Roy rented behind Bell Auto Parts from George Wright.
