  1. Rare shot of Al's short-lived gasser.

No choice other than the rear tires way out on little guys like these.

My first P/U, I went oversized and new Keystone wheels with about an inch out from the fenders. Got stopped and told that's a no-no with a written warning. That was in '77. Changed to stock wheels, took it in for inspection, changed back to the Keystones, never got stopped again. The first stop was by a county sheriff most of which were assholes at that point in time.

Same with my ‘33 coupe. Halibrands and M&Hs sticking out about 1 1/2” on each side. I got written up for the tires sticking out but not for the slicks or any of the other flagrant violations my car had. I slapped on the street tires and got it signed off (holding my breath the whole time) and went home to put the slicks back on. Happened a lot over the years.

  17. OK, I posted this image back on #229 and wanted to spend more time on it. When these images showed up on the old Gasser Madness site and Gassers group on Yahoo! they threw everyone into a tizzy. If you look at the color shot of the Crane Brothers '33 you can see a white-with-red-stripes tube sticking out from under the front end.

Weird, but not too unexplainable based on this one image.

Now look at the shot of it in flight. There's that weird tube again.

Yup, it's the header and collector for the left bank of the engine! No one on the GM site thought it was a very good idea, but no one could finger out why they did it that way. Another "test" lost to the fog of time?

  18. The Crane bros. (SLC) kinda danced to different beat, but the car ran well was the car to beat here in A/Gas.
If you think it looks weird you should have heard it!
