I'll add another one that always brings a smile to my face. The American flag in my garage reflected in the hoodscoop and windshield of my '56 Chevy.

Dan, she has a favorite boy in her 1st grade class who is "so cool" because he rides the bus. She's said a time or two that this would be way better than the bus.

I need to get working on this thing...

    Hello,

When I first took this Ektachrome color slide shot of the 1932 Phaeton, I did not know it would become one of my favorites to keep the old memories “Alive and Kicking…” (Simple Minds) With the pandemic rolling on with those that don’t care, staying locked in place has some advantages. The memory banks get stronger and keeps the “BIG AZ” away.

Who knew that on this cold wintery morning that it would last plenty of years of enjoyment. Now, with the cold weather upon us (40 at night), the photo fits right into the So Cal scenery. It would have made a great full screen shot for one of the cool weather people on the networks to show it and talk about the So Cal wintery weather.

For the past several years, I have used this photo in the hot summer, just to fool my old brain into thinking cool/cold thoughts. It has worked all of these years and our house/my brain thinks it needs to be cool to enjoy the So Cal scenery. I have left it on my current screen saver program longer than any other Ektachrome color slide for enjoyment.

In the summer, it cools. In the winter, it makes us glad we are farther away from those cold snowy mountain ranges. But the photo makes the whole situation mellow and enjoyable. Just enough snow to make it worthwhile, without having to shovel 12 feet of snow off of the front porch or backyard. Good thing for the So Cal Mediterranean climate zone.

Recently, I found another color shot of the same cold wintery morning. Now, it is in rotation for screen savers on my laptop and home desktop computer screen.

Now, my brain will be doubtful... "the weather outside is frightful..."

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful.
And since we've got no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Oh, it doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I've brought some corn for popping.
The lights are turned way down low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

    When we finally kiss goodnight,
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But, if you really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm!

    The fire is slowly dying,
And my dear, we're still good-by-ing.
But, as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Oh, it doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I've brought some corn for popping,
Since the lights are turned way down low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

    When we finally say goodnight,
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But, if you'll really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm!

Lefty Mudersbach twin Chevy FED (little, Dennis Mudersbach enjoying the most popular food item at Lion’s Dragstrip 1959-60)

    Hello,

Having spent almost every weekend from 1957 to 1960 at Lion’s Dragstrip, it gave us a good insight into the world of drag racing. The early cars, developing into some of the fastest, coolest running race cars was inspiring. There were plenty of things that “got the motor running.” Living so close to the dragstrip and all of the local big name speed shops on the Westside of Long Beach also helped in this fabulous learning environment.

Spending all morning, afternoon and into the late evening was probably a good thing for our parents’ alone time. But, we had a fabulous place to hang around all day and night. What did we do for food? The lunches were usually those fabulous hot dogs and Cokes. Then there were tons of snacks in between rounds and before dinner. So, what was on the dinner menu? Chili dogs and more Cokes. Those hot dogs were the teenage staple for us. It was great, filling and smelled outstanding. Dinner needed to be somewhat different, so the chili dogs stepped into the picture.

Our memory of that fabulous place is always enhanced by our teenage friends that worked in the main refreshment center and our favorite stand, the lonely stand in the pits area. The famous hot dogs always made us smile then and now…

This was the gathering place of the drag racers and their teams as the hot dogs and cokes were dished out like it was a holiday gathering every Saturday night. The big refreshment stand was BIG and of course, crowded. So, the pits stand and the small tower side stand was less busy and the food was just as good.
