Jim Hurtubise is pushed out to practice with the Novi for the 1965 Indianapolis 500. Herk had come to Indy that year with his own rear engine Halibrand but destroyed it during practice on Pole Day morning. Without a ride, Andy Granatelli stepped up and offered him the Novi. Herk had put one in the middle of row one in 1963. Herk was 10th fastest overall but was forced to start at the back because of his late qualifying effort. This is probably Carb Day because the car looks to have been repainted from its blue with yellow nose color scheme, to the solid DayGlo red it wore on race day. The roar of the V-8 through those short pipes shook the ground! Andy Granatelli on the left. You could hear the Novi over any other car or group of cars.

Lots of great pics lately. Nice hi res scans of crystal clear originals. There seems to be a theme running through a lot of them, auto reliability, testing and sales stuff too. All great. Mart.
