Was doing a bit of brain storming for my current project and was wondering if anyone has ever run a pinion mounted emergency brake on an open driveline banjo rear end? Would be nice to not have the cables going to the drums.

Why not run a driveshaft brake on the trans?

I have put a few on the transfer cases of 4x4 rigs, and on the pinion of Deuce axles. Either way, they work fine.

In each case, the stuff I used came from here: http://www.tsmmfg.com/driveshaftparkin.html

I made the brackets. Not complicated stuff.

Either way you have braking force multiplied by the final drive ratio, so you can do the job with a smaller brake. You also have differential action on the brake, which may be either an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on the circumstances. Presumably any slip-limiting device would work on the brake, too.

I have one from TSM on my bucket. Nice piece and great guy to deal with. We figured out that he one for a sprint car is the same as a banjo rear end.

Speedway catalog #501, page 50 part no. 715-3250, Pinion Mounted E-Brake. This one is for a 9" Ford but might be adaptable.

If you are using a GM TH400 it is easy to get the trans output shaft setup they put on motor homes. It is all bolt on.
