need help to find what differential this is. It has a 5 x 4.5 wheel bolt pattern. 10 inch drum, 2 inch shoes. Backing plate to backing plate around 52 inches. Any help would be greatly appreciated. m.ralph 20201121_150055.jpg 20201121_150058.jpg 20201121_150119.jpg 20201121_150144.jpg 20201121_150155.jpg 20201121_150159.jpg 20201121_150055.jpg

this is the cover gasket for that 8.7 he's talking about. If it looks right, go buy a FEL-PRO RDS55003 gasket and see if it fits, then you'll know that's what you have. It think the application is 1968-78 Ford full size cars.

If it is a 8.7, it's hard to find much for it. They also had a 7.5 that looked that way, too. Both were pretty weak best I remember, and not many ratios, 2.79 and 3.00 maybe is it.

I found out it was from a 1975 Ford Granada. Yes 2.79 gear ratio

    6 cylinder car??

  9. With a automatic trans, and short rear tires 2.79 will be a cruiser, but not very spirited off the line. You should consider putting some sort of upper torque control arm on it as those Ford radius rods werent designed to stop twisting forces.

  10. There were many Granadas built with that inspection cover style rearend. Not sure what determines whether it got an 8-inch (or 9-inch) or the inspection cover type. Seemed like I use to find less of the 8-inch in the junkyard than the useless inspection cover type.

Allegedly the integral carrier wasn't put in Granada's until 1976 ...

I'm not sure of the years they used that rear, but it was probably whatever came down the line got stuck in there. I have seen I6 Granada's with 9" rears and 351W engine cars with the integral carrier rears, no rhyme or reason. The 9" Granada rear used to be highly sought after since they were only 1" wider than the Maverick 8". I bought a rolled Granada for the drivetrain, 351W, C4, but it had the weak rear end. Still got my money's worth, ended up using the front disc brake spindles on my 74 Maverick.
