I thought about posting this the 60's style tri five thread but it's a couple of years too new. Here is mine, a 56 Del Ray. It had numerous small blocks, a 4 speed, a Sun Tach and 4.88's. So lets see where we started at. my 56 (2).jpg

This one has a 348, tri-power, Hurst shifter (3 speed) and a Sun tach. My Mercury convertible is in the yard waiting until my sister got her license. 58Impala.jpg

Here is my 48 Plymouth that was my high school ride, bought it in '77. That's me standing by it upon my high school graduation, and my girlfriend with it on a road trip. It had lowering blocks, rear top bow lowered, decked, white tuck and roll on the rear quarters, top well, and fake white t&r on the door panels, reclining bucket seats. I swapped in an overdrive out of a '53 Plymouth. I still have it!

I started building a car for high school,Dad had already told me,"Your Sis is getting a car, your a man,an got to get your own!"
Starting Jr High ,I began getting junked car parts together, got my Bobtailed 1928 Hot Rod "A" running end of 1959.
Drove her to Miami Sr High School in 1960.
I knew didn't have enough $ saved to buy anything cool, just built it my self!
I still have my Rod, do my own upkeep.

You dated Debra Winger in High School ?

  9. Yep, mine was OT here by about 3 years so I can’t talk about it. Wish I would have kept it though since it would be worth a small fortune now and it was the only father/son project I ever did with my dad.

My '64 Galaxie. Bought it when I was 12, fixed it up and drove it through high school. Took it apart after graduation.

I still have it...and it's still apart after 3 decades...

Mine was a hand me down 1955 Ford Fairlane ,from my grand parents when I was 15, they bought a new 1966 Galaxie. It ran sweet, with the 272 two barrel Fordamatic. Was I happy? Well I was just 15......no! I had to go to Poor Boys salvage and pull a 430 MEL and transmission out of a 1958 Lincoln! 375 horsepower! Rebuilt it before I put it in, .030 over. Thunderbird cam. Took some doing to put it in that Ford, as the 58 MELs didn’t have the traditional engine mounts, but my Dad and I did it! Actually used Flathead engine mounts! I learned a ton in a short time! Had a bunch of fun with that car! Ran good, but I did make some performance mistakes, that kept it from running great. I still have the 272 and the Fordamatic, but my 55 is long gone! One of the few cars that I have ever sold! Sure wished I hadn’t!

Being a Corvair guy my ride was a 65 Corsa 180 turbo 4spd. Regal red with red interior. Needed alot of work but it was a sweet ride to me. I was 14 when I got that car. Lots of fun and the girls loved it.
I will have to find some pics.
SHIT, that was a long time ago.

Great thread. It just made me think of something I never realized. Me or none of my friends had any "Traditional" HAMB type cars. I graduated in 1974 in Dewitt Michigan. My first car was a 65 Cutlass, friends had 64 Impala, 66 Lemans, 69 Cutlass, 64 Dart, 64 Olds 88, 63 Biscayne, Those cars were just regular 10 year old beaters. Thogh we did try to fix them up with cheap mods like pinstriping, glasspacs, etc. I can't remember anyone having a late fifties car let alone a middle 30's. Probably a combination of salt use in Michigan and my cicrle of friends now quite old enough??

  23. This '53 Chevy was my High School daily driver in 1979-80.

Nosed and decked and four more grille teeth for a total of seven. New tires, chrome & upholstery thanks to my $2.15/hr job at a plant nursery. I helped a bodyman with house repairs in return for spraying the paint.

I sold it in '84 to help pay for college.

While the deuce may be a stretch, early 50’s Chevy’s can be had reasonable, sell some custom bikes and you may have some cash for one when your closer to 16z

I was a hundreds pounds lighter and it was metallic emerald Green when I bought my 51 Merc in 1963 as a High school sophomore. I bought it from the high school crafts shop teacher. It was lowered with heated coils and lowering blocks and had the stock grill with the bumper guards removed and pieces from another stock grill fitted in.

My High school hot rod. I drove this to school in 1989 as a badly built AG clone. Tore it down winter of junior year and redid the chassis, senior year body was in prime and finished it after graduation.

  29. My high school ride was a 1963 1/2 Falcon Sprint, 260/4 speed, The car was pretty fast, especially after Gene Cromer massaged the engine.

This photo was taken at my grandparents house on Thanksgiving Day 1967, Brenda is sitting beside the car. HRP
