Spent all day welding patches into my inner fender pieces, trying to make two ugly sets become one usable set

A lathe big enough to swing a wheel would be too big for my shop. This is for a bench top fixture, that can go on a shelf when not in use.

  4. Made a sheet metal nut for the weird threads on the Lincoln trunk poppers and mounted them in the holes in y '47 that Henry provided just in case someone shaved the trunk. Screwed some pads inside the lid and after about 20 or so revisions and cell phone in trunk videos got them working. Decide the front inner radiator panel needed to look nicer and shrunk out some wrinkles; supposed to do that before epoxy; but you know how that works.

  5. Did some more work on a homebrew luggage rack we're making for my friend's '33.

So when you go to O'reilly's and tell them you need a lower hose for a 47 Studebaker M15 with a small block Chevy and a Mustang radiator , this is what it takes to make it happen. oh yeah plus a piece of roll bar tubing.

Can’t tell from the pictures, but Dayco C71593 from AutoZone might work for you here. Cut down to length, it worked for my ‘37 with SBC and Brassworks radiator. Less distance to cover than you have there, but the outlets look like they’re in about the same relationship.

Took delivery of a Haas UMC 500 machining center for the shop.

Found a weak spot in the pad, and now I have a concrete project for the weekend! It's always something....

Got the trans in the Sunliner tonight, its not getting any easier doing it on the floor so time for a lift. This will be my one and only convertible since that big X in the frame makes it a pain to change trans.

Pulled the trans and rearend from the parts car. Trying to save every usable part before it heads to the old junkyard in the sky.

Took the Sunliner on a road test and I think I got a good used trans.

I took Friday off but stuff still needs to get done so Sunday it is.
Working on a 58 Vette speedometer and tach today, tach first. IMG_0824.JPG
    IMG_0825.JPG
    IMG_0827.JPG
Tach tear down and inspected. Remove the magnet so I can replace the oil-lite
bushing and check the magnet jewel. IMG_0771.JPG
Installed the new bushing in the frame, reamed it to fit the magnet shaft and re-installed the magnet in the frame with the magnet flaring tool. IMG_0828.JPG
Put the tach back together and checked north south polarization so it could be recharged on the old magneto magnet charger. The compass is a WWII paratroopers wrist compass that was given to my father by a good friend of his. IMG_0832.JPG IMG_0831.JPG
Once the magnet is overcharged we move to the test bench where while the tach is spinning it is de- magnetized to get the proper calibration. I use a pulse generator hooked up to our Stewart Warner old 890 series speed analyzer so I have both analog and digital to fine tune calibration. IMG_0833.JPG IMG_0835.JPG
Then put back in the can for final calibration check. IMG_0829.JPG IMG_0838.JPG IMG_0840.JPG
Pretty much the same procedure on the speedo IMG_0821.JPG IMG_0823.JPG IMG_0841.JPG

Got the vacuum wipers working on my ‘53 Ford. First I had no vacuum at fitting on the motor. Replaced the hose and that was fixed. Then found my stock unit had a hard spot about 1/3 of the way into the sweep. I took it apart and worked on it with emery cloth but could never really get that spot to stop binding. Remembered there were a couple units in the boxes of parts I got with my ‘40. They looked identical to my stock unit and one of them seemed to be in good working order. Lubed it up and bolted it in, works pretty well. Moves the full sweep, should be good for a light rain.

Then I started the tear down to get my heater and defrost working. Got everything apart and test fitted my Ranchero heater core. Should be good with a little elongating of the holes for the fittings in the housing. Just need to find some replacement defrost ducts and I can start cleaning it up and putting it all back together.

Since day way mellow I played musical chairs with equipment for winter and took a few minutes to get the karts outside for engine fitment measurements. Blue one [Rupp I think] will probably get a 10hp out of go power and the red [Yamaha] will get a 15hp Lifan w/5spd trans.

  21. Drilled the homebrew rack for the bars we made and had plated along with a little V/8 emblem. Buddy is taking the mounts, links, and hardware to the plater tomorrow. Little more work and it will be ready for paint.

My 60’s Rupp Chaparral is almost ready for the road. New rear axle and repaired turbine wheels. Outer rims picked up from the chrome platers and mounted the tires. Juan’s Auto Upholstery in Garden Grove replicated the original seat. B & S Raptor for power; will paint the steering column cover Argent tomorrow and add belville washers from McMaster-Carr under the rear wheel axle nuts and take it for a ride.... 3F13FA4D-01F0-429E-BC28-CC684161D5C1.jpeg 67034956-C7BB-4326-8DFD-93A9A2149A52.jpeg

That’s what I always liked.. but I’ve been retired for 5 years and SF is a little to far to commute. Running conduit and pulling wire was fun. Good luck.

Unload and move my freshly restored circa 1955 Snapon tool box into my office in the shop. Kudos to my friend Steve that got it done before Christmas! Randy

I stripped a couple coats of paint off and fixed a few dings on a set of valve covers I’m putting on my 62 Belair. 62E2C11A-F276-4CF1-AF49-5B5AE555FA48.jpeg C447347F-6B2E-4D35-82E4-9AFB5DAE6AE3.jpeg

I ran all of the conduit for in my new shop, solo.

It took 7-hours, but it is all in.

Tomorrow I hope to start pulling wire.
