So its been quite a while since I've provided any update. Due to the current health pandemic, I'm on furlough and using the time constructively. I've gone through the engine and a tight budget did dictate some decisions. Its not a complete rebuild, IE: line hone, cylinder bore etc, its more of a freshen up with an eye toward thriftiness, and repairing only where necessary. Prior to disassembly it had great oil pressure and ran satisfactorily, minus lifters bleeding down and generally noisy valve train. The front cover was internally eroded so that got replaced along with the water pump. The cylinder bore is stock as are the pistons, and yes, the bore is worn but not worn out. So, new rings and a flex hone there. The cylinder heads got a thorough check and were in good condition, so a valve job and new valve stem seals got those sorted. The valve train was noisy so I replaced the cam and lifters along with a high quality chain and steel timing gears. The crankshaft measured within spec and the rod/main bearings were also reusable, so I micro-polished the crank and gave it a thorough cleaning. A final clean up of all components and re-assembly. Don't forget this internal galley plug! Parts laid out for assembly. Thorough cleaning of block prior to assembly. After Installing new cam, laying crankshaft in block. Thrust @ .005 Long block buttoned up and painted...

Its a 40 dash with a chrome insert done by the previous owner, I tuned it up when I replaced some of the mis-matched instruments for a cleaner look. Im trying to be sympathetic to the original build.
It's for sale in the "cars for sale"classifieds for $14,500.00. Some assembly required but looks like a fair price.
That's a great car with lots of New England history. Paul drove that everywhere for many years. Then John had it and he drove it too, he kept it true to the original style.

Well stuff Happens, maybe it will show up at Roundup when it is done. I won't jack the thread with a photo but a buddy of mine has a 40 Standard two door black with flames with a 351 and automatic that is an older build but is fly in, jump in and drive anywhere without a worry for sale for 17,500 if he hasn't sold it in the last couple of days. Nice traditional looking car.
