Both great axles, but I'd run the drilled I beam for sure! I've got one of each in my two cars, and I like the drilled I beam one much better! Blocks aren't an issue, as long as you don't get crazy with thickness.

How about centering the front axle or pushing it forward an inch or so?

We never tried that. Just put them where they naturally set. The Bizio truck axle is set forward. Two friends have stretched the body and chassis to get a longer wheelbase . one is 106 and the other is 108 in. Mine is 100 in. one is pro-street and handles good (106) the other (108) isn't finished yet. I guess it's depends on what you do with the car. Sedan Deliveries are very cool. Had a chance to buy "Catch Me If You Can" once but had 3 Willys already. I was standing on thin ice if ya know what I mean. It's in California now.

It usually looks better if it's slightly forward as the front gets higher. Doesn't take much, so maybe 1"- 1.5" forward will make it look better.

I wanted a EELCO but I settled for this, which still wasnt cheap, but I thought it would go with what I am shooting for. Got my material for ladder bars, cut them , but had not started yet on the build of them. No time. There 1.25 x .187 sq, tubeing, will be about 60" long when done. Puts right about the trans mount area. Still debating quater eliptics or parallel leafs? Car want really see any dragstrip duty, might though, mostly sunny satarday thing.

Messing around last night with a parachute a friend brought by. I think the bigger one is what I was shooting for, this one is too small I think? I think I need to lift the back of the panel up some too?
Yes I still have the orignal steel back door too :D

If you are talking about stock original springs check with St. Louis Spring, in St. Louis Missouri.
    http://www.saintlouisspring.com/

They make springs for just about anything, so they should have the correct measurements.

  19. I have a copy of the length of all Willys front and rear springs from before the Model 77's up through the 441-42 vehicles.
It list all Willys rear springs from 1933 up through 1941-41 model year as 46" from eye to eye, number of leafs, center bolt placement, and arch in inches. I have a set of '39 rear springs as well as a 1936 set of rear leafs, and they are both 46" long. There are minor differences in the placement of the spring center bolt, number of leafs (6 is the most comon), and arch. They are all 1-3/4" wide. The front spring are another matter as they are all somewhat close in length, but many are an inch or in some cases up to 6" difference in length. Smallest front ones on the list are about 30" long (early model 77's), up to the 440-441's which are listed at 36-1/4" eye to eye. '37-'38 show as 33" eye to eye... again it varies a bit as to center bolt placement. g-willys

So are the model 77 rear springs are the pad locating bolt center in the center of the spring? If not, how much offset?

  22. Interestingly enough the Willys factory was never noted for consistently putting the wheels in the center of the fender opening. We street rodders are more apt to do that for looks and balance. All that being said the factory listing that I have shows that the rear spring center bolt for the model 77's all the way up to the 37-38 model year to be located the same. That distance would be from the front spring eye(center) to the center bolt as 22-1/4" and the long end is listed at 23-3/4 " from the center bolt to the rear spring eye center. It went to 23" & 23" (or dead center) in 1939...can't find my next page, so unsure of the exact locations for the model 440, and 441-442.
*** Of note, would be that the springs are measured as follows: from the center of the front spring eye, along the arch of the MAIN leaf to the center of the rear spring eye...Not from one spring eye center to the other, like a bow string. That type of measurement would tell you the spring arch, but would be less in length than 46 inches.
