Well.....................when my 3 window is operational, it is never out of my sight so I never drive it and leave it alone. My doors do not lock, (do yours?), and most times I run without a hood. Note my place of residence. FW is 28 miles south of Seattle via I-5 and has become infested with humanity, a great majority of which you can't trust to leave their hands to themselves. As these degenerates wander aimlessly about, though the parking lots, & sidewalks here, they are looking for whatever is available for them to pawn just down the street. While there are of course not many "things" to just pick off the engine or obtain quickly from inside, the temptation to just do something nasty with force is always present amongst these individuals, just because they are down with out hope' and hate you, (me), for their plight.
Sadly this is the present, it is not the days of old where you can leave your door unlocked and go away for a week any more.
I kind of cast a dark shadow on this thread with this little rant and I apologize for doing that.
For those who can drive your pride to where ever, that is truly great and I envy you for being able to do so. Here's wishing you good times with your travels. :)

  4. That's a sad commentary.

My old beater does have a lock but I don't use it, I'll park the car and be gone for hours, it's just a car but that doesn't mean I don't love it as much as you can love a car.

I have insurance if something happens to it and I have owned this car longer than a lot of people have been married.

Hot rods are built to be used and in my humble opinion they shouldn't be static art, I drive my old beater ever chance I get, I've driven it to town today, been to the parts house, went by a friends t help him with moving a project and went to lunch, I've driven about 40 miles so far today. This truck is my daily driver. For Thanksgiving I Drove my truck up to Austin for the holiday. Took my Dad a grill for his new house. I also picked up one of my flatheads in order to make room at his new smaller shop. The engine will be in the classifieds soon.

I try to drive mine every weekend. Not always successful, but it gets pretty regular use. Not much of a grocery-getter, just therapy time, really. I like sticking to the little rural two lanes around here. No snow or salt, and I can bundle up as it gets colder. The new windshield helps for that. Light rain is OK, and I've just skipped days with anything heavy.

  11. Due to my daughters accident Monday week that totaled Brenda's flower shop magnum wagon, we have been forced into using the Ranch Wagon & my old beater, both have been daily drivers since Monday week.

We are closing the shop tomorrow and driving the Ranch Wagon to Georgia to look at a replacement Magnum wagon for the shop.

It's been kind of ironic that we are using the '54 Ranch Wagon for the expressed reason Brenda's grandmother Jessie purchased it for - Delivery flowers, funeral sprays & casket pieces. HRP

  12. I was driving my Coupe to work everyday, 'til my rearend broke. Gets better gas mileage than my Van, hahaha.

It's a bit hard in my case because my hot rod only exists in my head.

My garage is heated as well, and is basically just another room in the house during the winter. So I totally agree, it's really nice to be able to go in there and work on stuff without freezing. One of my favorite house features the previous owner put in. That and the generac. That thing has made life a whole lot easier many times too.

Yes, but not in the rain, no wipers. Very selective on parking places, maybe a case of too much pride in ownership. Far too many parking lot idiots and asshole drivers. Wait a minute, I am an asshole driver.

Who drives their hot rod? I don't know, it seems like nobody in So Cal does. Every time I post a thread here trying to instigate a cruise somewhere all I get is crickets chirping.

I'll tell you who doesn't drive one anymore, my dog. Ran right into a mailbox while I was in the store. Thought I wouldn't notice.

hell even my kids drive them…my then 14 year old… BFB98D71-B98D-4128-95C7-E3D067084DF7.jpeg As HRP said, both have locks, don’t use them, I too will park and walk away and not give them a second thought. I thoroughly enjoy my old cars.

I drive my hot rods as much as possible. I used to commute 100 miles a day for work years ago and racked up lots of miles on this one. It's been snowed on hailed on and today rained on. PXL_20211102_230026412.jpg

I was coming back from a wrecking yard hauling an 8.8 Ford rear axle for my '40 Coupe, and this goes past me on the 10 Freeway at about 3:00pm on a Tuesday. I was so astounded, I grabbed my phone and snapped a pic..

And yes. I drive my '40 every chance I can get..
