  6. Thanks for the pictures. Funny thing; yesterday I went and grabbed Issue #32 of The Rodder's Journal out of my archives to read during morning coffee, and I read the article on this car. Timing!

  7. Thanks Ron for taking the time to post pics of my favorite roadster ever! I still plan to drop in and visit my next trip west, but it might be a while, with dad gone there's not much reason to go out to AZ anymore.

Would like to see it when it had a 427 FE motor in it....

  9. I saw it up close in 2015 and liked the fact that the gauges were mismatched. Made me feel better about my mix of gauges

  10. I know it's iconic and I'll likely get blasted for this, but I just always felt like it was a little "overdone". Too much pinstriping going on for me. Go ahead, smack me.:D:(

No reason anyone should be upset by that (although I realize that people seem to get upset by everything). We all have different tastes and the world would be a boring place if we didn't.

Not gonna smack ya. We all got have different opinions. It’s what makes the world go round. I saw it a Kissimmee in 2019 and didn’t notice mismatched gauges. Did Brizio restore it with them? Can’t believe I didn’t notice. What a dumb ass. Snowman

Agreed, too much pinstriping. It's like when they started at the front they were in the mood for flames and then by the time they got to the back they had forgot about the flames and went trucker crazy with pinstripes.

The only example of Ed Roth pinstriping I've ever seen.

Nice to see this car. I have always liked the excess of it. Remind me if I'm wrong but did Ed Roth not have a hand in the flames? Also, for those who enjoyed Tom's publication, the doufass corporate entity that had their claws last on it have let those who give a rat's ass know that it will no longer be published. So SR is done, get out your forks.

C39F7DCA-EF53-4780-A634-8A3780DC1E92.jpeg Tom painted the car a number of times in a few different colors, and he did the flames too, twice. When it was black with Tom’s flames and ran the ‘39 trans and V8 quick change Roth striped it. Later when he changed to a Muncie 4 speed and Chevy rear it was repainted black and Tom flamed it again but that time it was striped by Kelly of Compton, CA. The photo shows the Kelly striping job.
When the car was restored it had the Roth striping replicated.

I took the pictures around 2010. This was after Brizio restoration. The car was restored to what it was in 1963 I believe, with Roth pinstriping.

Anyone interested in some of the history of the car should look up these two issues of PHR. Tex Smith touches a bit on the early days of the car and then goes into detail on the 1964 upgrade, the fourth by Tom at that time. As said by @r2c1 above the car was restored to its 1963 look.
Sorry for stepping on your thread Ron, but I thought some might be interested in the changes the car went through over the years. I’ll leave the blown 427 FE/C-6 version out though.

Not a problem Fordors, add all you want. There was a lot print and features on this car. So any additions are welcome. Ron
