    So...
Sold the Dodge and didn't take long to get the itch. Came across the below and bought it sight-unseen. It is a 59, La Dawri, kit-car with a 1949 Ford Frame and rear. I am excited as it is out of my wheelhouse and I want to build a car with my boy to get him eth hell off the damn games and TV.

It is coming from WA and it will take a little over 3 weeks to get here, which stinks cause I wanna start measuring for the rear (maybe quick-change) and motor (prob small block) and possible donor car/roller.

@porkchop4464 that looks like a really cool project there. You mentioned donor car were you planning on replacing the 49 Ford frame? If you're going to be lifting the body off and need an extra set of hands I'm only a few minutes away in Warwick. Does it have an engine in it already?

    That’s interesting!

  8. Who but a midget or small child could? The first order of business should be to lengthen those doors by at least a foot... Or close them permanently and leave to top off.

It is a 1959 LaDawri Roadster with a 1949 ford Shoebox frame. No Engine, but there is a rear, which I think is a 1949.

Has a bit of a Vette had an affair with an Aston Martin, right?

I know! It is what I think saved me as a kid. My mom knew (as they always do) that I would have gone down the wrong road if I didn't have something to put all of my aggression and anger and hope into after my dad died. With this, she bought me a 1931 Ford Coupe and that was my first build from the age of 14 to 17. I am now going to keep it going with my son. Sad that my mom is now gone and she can't see all she taught me!

    StuJoe!

I just may take you up on the helping hand when the time comes.

I put a lift beam in my garage for my Dodge. It is basically three 2 x 12s, lag bolted together atop a 4x4 on each side. I will use that for the body separation when the time comes.

It has a 1949 frame and rear, but some of the pics he sent show holes of rust about two feet back from the cradle and A-arms. Don't really know what I will do. I was thinking maybe a torched or salvaged Vette to get the rear and front suspension and a roller. But may just use what is in it if the holes aren't so bad and I feel I can combo mig and stick it all up.

Thing is, I never ran the 220 in the new house for the Lincoln 225 I have; gotta do that real soon since the thing was picked up today!. My mig is 110, however.

Food for thought. Gotta see the scale when she arrives before making any type of decisions for running gear and other body mods. It is very nice to be excited about a build again.

Is the a mid 1950's ford grill? Looks like a great start to a unique car revival

Pretty neat. I see lots of Brooks Stevens' design cues in this one...

Hey! Cool! Thanks for the name. I am trying to put together a folder of ideas. If anyone has any info on the car or cars similar to it for its/the era (late Fifties Kit Cars), it will be greatly appreciated (websites, names, famous builders and examples, details, etc.).

I am out of my wheelhouse with the cruisers and customs, but it has a certain elegance and badassery that caught my eye and that kept me coming back to it on Ebay until I bought it . It was last registered in 1975 and it has a title and a reg from Washington State being Fed-Exed today!

That re-pop is 500 on Ebay. Since they are in good shape and fit what has been made to fit the grill setup, I will have them chromed.

The company moved to the United States in 1957 where it became one of the largest fiberglass sports car body companies during the re-body/specials craze of the 1950s and 1960s. The company ceased operations in 1965. Its name came from a combination of L A Dawes and his friend Don Wright. Dawes was born on 7 July 1933 and died in 2002.[1]
