My dad bought one of these brand new in '37. Looked just like this one, it was gun-metal gray. It was our family's only transportation until about 1952 or 53 when it was finally traded in. He was proud that it had "knee action" suspension and "sealed beam" headlights - terms that as a young lad I didn't understand. My uncle, who lived in Needles, CA, besides being an engineer for Santa Fe RR was also a trained mechanic and when it was time for a rebuild (late 40's) dad drove it over there, dropped it off at my uncles house, and rode the train back home to Barstow. In a couple of weeks it was done so dad rode the train back and drove it home - slowly since it needed breaking in. My uncle told him the machine shop guy said he never wanted to see that engine again (!) that it was the hardest block he'd ever run across. It ruined several cutting tools on his boring machine! Great car, never broke down and always got us to where we were going - and back again.

That's what I was thinking. It was a bit odd looking to be a Ford. Not all info that comes with these photos is correct.
