Jalopy races in 1950 for me were on Saturday at 11 o'clock on local channel 5 coming from Ascot Park, hosted by Dick Lane. We watched hoping for a rollover or crash. I sometime wonder how many 32 5 windows were trashed. Dick Lane also was the commentator for Wednesday night wrestling. My dad was first on the block to buy a T.V. and on wrestling night we had sometimes as many 20 people crammed into our living room. Bring your folding chair.

Noel I regularly went to the Speedway at the Exibhition Grounds opposite the Royal Brisbane Hospital as a teenager. Sat on the corner with the newspaper to hold up so when they threw the dirt up coming around the corner it didn't get in your eyes. Can't remember all the names but there was Blair Shepherd and of course Mel Pullen. The old teenage joke was " I was at the speedway last night and saw Mel Pullen himself.
