thanks much. I’m at 25” and just shy of 90 degrees so I’m going to squeeze them together and add a bar across the top. Great information and should help.

  3. I've learned that this top of the U bracket is the best place to adjust the actual Hood side gap. I'm not sure there is a specific perfect number for the Top of the U bracket. Before locking in on that I would have the Hood mounted and squared to the Cowell with a good gap there. Then add the fenders and make the Gap you want. Raising and lowering the mount point of the Core support will make the Hood itself change both gap and angle at the Cowell. Moving the fenders on the inner fenders just changes the profile from door edge to hood latch point. I noticed it looks like a hand crafted inner fender panel on your Right side and a Factory one on the Left. Could give you a little extra work in making it all come together.

Making panels fit on almost any car is a major undertaking. I’ve been doing it for so long that it usually gets done pretty well. Just nice to know some of the quirks of a certain model. Last time I had anything to do with a shoebox Ford was 1967. All the panels are originals from 4 different cars. I cut the inside of the air tube off the right side so I can mount the battery on the right side for the SBF. Thanks for the insights.

Fenders mocked up and fit. A little more tweaking and welding and they’ll get sprayed with epoxy...starting to look like a car...

  7. Looking good! Getting closer. :) I wonder who makes an interior kit for a '49 Ranchero? :D

Thank you. My shop was a disaster yesterday. Took down my makeshift booth after priming the hood yesterday and spent all morning today cleaning and putting things away before I put the hood on this afternoon.

Box pretty much done. Still needs tailgate cables and it’ll get a coat of bed liner when the body is in final primer. Time to do a bunch of body work and mudding...

Love the license plate. HENRY SHOULD HAVE DONE IT

  16. Are the plans to use the plywood as templates and do the entire bed in metal? IMO that would be the way they came from the factory and you do have the skills. Either way it is a beautiful example of what should have been.

Thank you. It will remain the way it is with a coat of black bed liner.

I was expecting to see the bed floor amd sides from a donor pickup, like a Ranger, but the bedliner painted over that wood should look ok too.

I built a flat bed for my 75 Ford 4 x 4 and decked it with 1 and 1/8 tongue and groove plywood. Then had it sprayed with 2 part urethane bed liner. That stuff is tough. After hauling about anything you can name on that deck for 15 years, the coating is still perfect. Road spray has finally rotted the wood from underneath in a couple places, but I'm starting to thing the coating can not be damaged. It is nearly 3/16 thick and no wood grain shows through, just has a nice pebbled surface. I think it's an excellent choice for the shoebox.
They could have also made it a smooth finish, but said it would be too slick to stand up on. Pebble finish was made by fogging the top coat from several feet away.

Are you going to be able to coat the bottom side too? It would be a shame to have the deck rot on this great build!

Thank you. The plate is not legal (too many characters). A friend made it. I’ve got thoughts in the same vein for a legal one. Always thinking...
