Hey guys, has any one ran a blown small block in a 32 with a top loader trans and a stock k member? I’m wondering if it would put the pull ya too far forward? I recently picked up a 3:71 V belt drive set up that I’d love to put in a 32 I’m hopefully picking up soon. any experience shared is much appreciated
Putting a small block Chevy in a stock 32 ford is tight with out cutting the firewall. This is with the stock transmission Locke a 1939 top loader. You also have to use a smaller distributor like a Mallory or early Chevy. The 371 or even the 471 will depend on your pullies vbelt is your best option but it can be done.
Blow SBC bolted to a 39 trans? You had better have great self control......or a pile of transmissions.
I'd think twice about that trans. My father had a 31 roadster with a 39 trans behind a 327 and it would knock the teeth right of the gears with a stab of the throttle!
While I appreciate the concern over the sustainability of an early ford trans I assure you all, I’ve daily driven old fords for years and am familiar with their fragility. I’m not looking to do hole shots. I was just curious if anyone had any first hand experience fitting a blown sbc in a 32 using a top loader trans and the stock kmember.
The engine having to move back for the blower drive. The trans mounting location would have to move back. Looking for feedback on k member and what has to be done to move the engine trans back to fit the drive.
I've heard of guys building a box in the crossmember so there is a pocket to slide the transmission back, but retain the stock type mount recessed in there.
Tom first had a ‘39 box with Zephyr gears behind his 327 and as the later Pop Rod cover shot shows he took that out and removed the trans mount, passed a Muncie 4 speed through the K-member and built a 2x2 crossmember for the rear trans mount. The cover shot also shows a trimmed front crossmember and the relationship of the crank pulley to the tie rod.
