Sorry about the glare from the display case. This is the holy grail of yo-yo shifters, the golden shifter award. These were handed out to class winners with Hurst shifters at the 1962 Nhra nats in Indy. This one was never awarded so it was not engraved, must have been a class where the winner wasn’t Hurst equipped

:p But does it light up? Reminds me of the wooden knob on my mighty Spark-O-Matic shifter in my first car, a 61 Impala 2dht. Cool stuff as always, @moriarty.

    LOL!!

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like NOS Boston 8 Tracks. I had some NOS Rick James 8 Tracks a while back... gave them away as white elephant gifts.

  11. @Moriarity do you know what years Hurst used the Yo-Yo and when they went to the ball style?

That is a great question, I don't know. I have never seen a 4 speed yoyo shifter , only 3 speeds. Maybe someone here has a catalog or 2 and could look it up

I don’t know about being a creeper, but I urge anyone who likes old hot rod parts to enlarge Moriarty’s shop pictures. It’s amazing what you’ll see, blister packs and parts you’ve almost forgotten about. But I’ve just gotta ask, what’s with the big pink head with Trump hair?

  14. You don't know! My faith in the fundamentals of hot rodding have been shaken!:)

  15. You know,,,,I couldn’t help but laugh !
The post was asking why no one ever sees anything but green metal flake steering wheels .
Then a few posts later Mark shows a red one he owns that is pristine and even in the original box !
    LoL
You can’t beat Moriarity,,,,,also,,,he probably owns all the red ones Left in existence .
LoL,,,,,the man has the best toys !
He only shows us a few examples of his exploits and conquests,,,,,if he doesn’t own something,,,he knows who does and is keeping an eye on it .

We had a few yoyo shifters down under too. Impala was a local brand in the 60's who made floor shifts for a bunch of Aussie and imported cars. Typically black yoyos, chrome plate handles. Photo below shows an Impala inline shifter to suit the GM Holden 3-speed crashbox (1948-62).

Yo Yo shifters were produced from 1960 to 1963, in the 3 speed version. This photo is not of my making, it is only borrowed from another thread that was previously posted here on the H.A.M.B.

Post Script : Recently found who posted the above picture, it was Tuck, (tech editor - here on the H.A.M.B.) Thanks Tuck for all you add to the H.A.M.B.

You are close to being very accurate about the year, of the yo-yo handle. When Hurst made these shifter
sticks, they were burned out of 3/8" hrs p&o material. Most recently I saw some controls in WW II,
bombers that looked liked yo-yo handles. As you know George H., was in the Navy. This style stick, was
mfgr before I worked there. I think I may have an original, stashed away. I will look, it will take time.

Found some fluorescent pink/orange acrylic similar to what was used on the Hurst yo-yo shifters

Almost finished converting my impala from an automatic to a 4 speed. I made up some laminated red and white pieces for my barrel shift knob to match the dash knobs I made 30 years ago... 7A56497C-D499-4081-9DA7-3E2D2E15BD3E.jpeg 4952777F-0AAA-42FE-A909-8561144CE1EA.jpeg 74A4E76E-23F4-4F98-B6FA-701D80434AE6.jpeg 685DD042-2E88-40ED-ABAE-D7B77D2427A0.jpeg 564F8166-7D68-46F1-80DC-EFEFDA70C345.jpeg 5DB094DB-7A7F-4E77-8A1D-8758C5800AF5.jpeg BCB2FBA8-1649-4375-856F-17FE6868AA07.jpeg

Saw an employee at our local Ford dealership playing with his yo-yo. I was putting a top on a 66 Corvette convertible.
