The wife and I are contemplating a part-time home in Florida on the Gulf side(somewhere between St. Pete and Venice) and I'd like to know how many traditional Hot Rodders and Custom guys (the cool Hambers) are around this area? How many car events are there? Swap meets? Any help appreciated.

  3. Mike Kelly's Cruise News has most of what's happening in Florida. At many shows and cruise-nites they pass them out free, or you can subscribe for $18 a year.

I stay about 20 miles south of Garlits Museum. Lots of hot rods and customs around here.

There is quite a bit of stuff going on most of the time. I think there is a club in Venice we live in Punta Gorda area there’s coffee and donut thing twice a week and cruise ins at muscle car museum also ft Meyers has a lot going.

  5. Roach, not car related BUT, my brother in law plays at the “KATIKI”sp? and other bars/ venues in and around St. Pete. He blows the harp and sings and is an outstanding blues artist if you’re into that kind of thing. His name is T.C. Carr and he fronts “TC Carr and the Bolts of Blue”. Anyways if you’ve got no car stuff going on and want to hear some good music, check him out, you won’t be disappointed I promise. Mitch

I live in St. Petersburg. There is a group of us that go for a cruise somewhere almost every Saturday morning. It’s mostly HAMB friendly cars, or very close. If you are on Facebook check us out on Classic Cruisers of Tampa Bay. We also have 100 plus cars every Thursday night at the Quaker Steak and Lube in Clearwater. A couple hours East of here is an excellent car show and parade every Saturday night at Old Town, in Kissimmee. Every Thanksgiving there is a huge 4 day car show and swap meet at Daytona Speedway. https://flacarshows.com/events/category/west-coast-of-florida/
    I
s an excellent source for all the local events around here.

Wow thanks everyone for the replies! Even the ones about the music as I am a bass player also and dig the blues! I am thinking about leaving a hot rod there if we get a place. Nothing for sure yet though.

Moved to Tn. from Crystal River, Fl. Always had a cruise in or a car show to go to.
Even took my old pro street Morris Minor to an import car show once . Won best old school import.
Not my type of crowd to hang with , but picked up a few customers that wanted V-8's installed in their imports to get rid of the fart can exhaust.
Housing with property is cheaper in Citrus county. So is car insurance and property taxes.

Check out sinkholes activity before you pick an area. Central Florida is sinkhole alley.

Thanks for the info. My wife has family on the west coast of Florida so if anything, that's where it'll be.

Been traveling down and spending time in the Bradenton, Siesta Key and Venice area over the winter. Bought a travel trailer this year. Beautiful area.
Now to figure out how to drag one of my old vehicles down for cruising.
