Sunday models

  1. Have always wanted to do a belly tank lakester...but there are no ready to use aircraft drop tanks in the standard automotive scale of 1/25. But I have found a perfect P-38 Lightning drop tank in 1/32 scale just like the full scale builders used....but 1/32? Talk about the proverbial 10 lbs of sh*t in a 5 lb bag ! Is it even possible? 20200316_002653.jpg

  3. I guess so. I still have to spend a little more time with the Dremel on the underside of the top half of the body to thin the area around the fairing to close it up tightly....but it gives me an appreciation for how imaginative and skillful these full scale belly tank builders were in fitting chassis, suspension and motors into such a tight space...and then run it down the dry lake at over 100 mph! And make it stay together.

I posted some models a while back that a friend of mine built, he turns out some fantastic builds.
He is really into the paint and fine detail work, and his interiors look like the real thing.
Well he showed me a kit that he bought that has the supplies just for doing interiors, of course you still need the talent and know how to use it successfully....and he does.
This is one he was working on the day I visited, he also had some body's that were all painted up and ready.
    He said that they were done up for his winter builds... 9024.jpeg 9019.jpeg 9052.jpeg 9054.jpeg 9029.jpeg 8403.jpeg 8405.jpeg 8404.jpeg

@rudestude, great looking paint there. The vintage models are sensational, great hobby aspect!

UPDATE on the Roger Lee "Blown Chow" FED.

The rear end is tricky, lots to do with the unit but things are moving forward.

Next up are clutch and go pedals along with a brake cylinder and handle.

Its nice to see your work Mike , your current build is making me wish I still had my old fed...only part I still have is the extra 2spd Lenco manual air pump handle/brake handle.
Keep building I'm still watching... 20201026_171357~2.jpeg

@rudestude, much appreciated. The brake handle is exactly the way I'd like to make one for the project! Thanks for showing.

Staring on the restoration of a AMT 65 Chevelle AWB I got back in 74,it was built but missing parts so I cobbled it up as good as a 13 year old could. Picked up some new parts a few years ago so time to get on it and hard to believe its been 46 years since I got it. 101_0046.JPG

UPDATE: Big day today! The chassis is finished. At this time I don't know what else needs to be added, still time though for any further soldering. After paint though....that's it, no more solder.

Added were studs in the frame rails for the rearend triangulation, brake cylinder and handle (functional), rearmost steering support brace and a rubber wheel at the wheelie unit.

    -IMG_3369.jpg -IMG_3372.jpg -IMG_3373.jpg -IMG_3374.jpg -IMG_3376.jpg
Actually, the major work is done. Well, the front wheels need to be laced.....but getting there. I have a goal as having this one wrapped up before Christmas.

Going to make this C10 into a C20,thought I ordered 8 lug rims but got six lugs so the correct 8 lugs have been ordered,if I can find a wide box I might put it on. 101_0048.JPG

Just finished this one today,it started out to be used for parts on another MPC 57 I built back in 78 but the rest of it was too good to throw out. It originally had a flip front clip but I wanted a more normal 57 2 door sedan so I cut the hood out,I started it about 10 years ago and Revell has since came out with one. Buick nailhead and 4 speed for power. 101_0052.JPG 101_0051.JPG

I had one of them 57's with the tilt front end it was red, it got crashed, I ended up using the roof for the construction of a hood scoop for this large scale Corvette....it had the right shape that I needed. 20201101_181206~2.jpeg 20201101_181315~2.jpeg

I also got one of my other ebay buys finished up.
This one was listed as a original vintage kit, it had been oponed and some of the parts taken off the tree's but no assembly had been started.
Also it was not a original vintage kit as listed , it was actually a re-release from 1997, I don't buy them for collecter value/investment purposes so I guess that really doesn't matter its just that the quality of the kit and even the box is not as good as an original issue. 20201101_174528(0)~2.jpeg 20201101_174445~2.jpeg 20201101_174351~2.jpeg 20201101_174322~2.jpeg 20201101_174221~2.jpeg 20201101_174634~2.jpeg

Here's one I finished earlier this year. Major "kit bashing" on this one.

And I was made an "offer I couldn't refuse" and Wayne has the model now.

  17. So I need a little advice. I bought a built up of a kit I built when I was young. I got most of the important things taken apart. Some parts are easily replaced with later reissues but the body is unique and i need to know if there is a way to get the clear parts apart without ruining the body or the headlight cover. Windshield is not important, headlight part and body is.

I have cut away the bad parts till your close to the body then sanded or use a file to bring it on down...carefully.
Luckily the glue bombs that I have been working on lately, theglue was dried out and brittle and the parts popped right off...good luck with it.

@1933_willys_77, you could try placing the body in a freezer for an hour, sometimes this helps things come apart.

I was digging for some parts in my "junk yard" and run across some Corvette parts .
The purple one is a older Revell "easy-kit"..snap kit.
The white one is a "virgin" body.
The yellow gold front clip has been modified, the headlights were down in the grill.
    1933_willys_77...See anything you need?
    1:24 ...snap kit one is 1:25 20201102_030012~2.jpeg 20201102_030032~2.jpeg 20201102_030248~2.jpeg 20201102_030530~2.jpeg

Started another ebay rescue that I got .
This is a original 1960 kit, it had been assembled with no paint work and minimal glue then disassembled at one point .
Had to clean up some old glue spots on the body , I rubbed it and polished it.
    Now its back together time. 20201102_082021~2.jpeg 20201102_082636~2.jpeg 20201102_082313~2.jpeg 20201102_082524~2.jpeg 20201102_100817~2.jpeg

So i tried the freezer and I guess it worked. :) thanks.
I was able to pop the headlight cover off. The windshield came out also but in pieces. As I said new glass is easy out of a cheaper reissue so no harm no foul. Just need a bit of sanding and clean up. This will be a long slow project over the winter but thanks to all for the help
