  1. Well I had contacted Chris last week.
He was just finishing up another car and was going to be getting on my car soon. He is having a local company make up the wood buck / form for the back panel. I hope to have some pics next week on the progress of this car.
Will keep updated as this project progresses.

I think Salt Flat Speed Shop was on the Velocity Channel last Saturday night on a show called Garage Dreams. Definetly a young guy and by the looks of his work he's very talented. He had several old school hot rods in the shop. Maybe your car was one of the projects in the background?

Sure looks like the outline from a Potter's trunk on the backside. Cool project, good luck.

  5. If the show was recorded in the last 6 months , there is a good chance that my car appeared in that show. Yes Chris is about mid 30's . Real talented young guy. When I was there last August he had 4 projects already underway.
How can I find this on the internet ?
I do not have TV here at my house .
Keeps me away from the couch and television. Ha!

  6. Yes that is his shop. Thank you for the clip . My car was not in the film. He picks and chooses his projects. I am just fortunate that I have contacted him when I did . In a few years I may not be able to afford his services. Just glad that I am part of his beginning.
I will be down there in June and stop by to either pick up my car or to see how far he has come on the transformation.

  7. The car may have had a potter trunk on it at one time but was not on the car when the previous owner had bought it . The car still has its original paint.

Just use your smart phone or computer and go to youtube.
In the youtube search engine, type:
    Velocity Channel Garage Dreams.

A lot of their episodes are there. Many of them are HAMB friendly and in High Def.

That video shows his personal 32 sedan project, which he finished and sold years ago. I'd guess it's five years old by now.

  12. Received a e mail from Chris today. He has the body blasted and started working on the door skins.
Here are some pics of the progress. I am planning a road trip down there the end of May and will be stopping by and getting more pics of the cars progress. 33 Vicky door skin 4.jpg 33Vicky door skin 5.jpg

  13. Stopped by Chris Davenports shop last month and checked on my project. He had both door skins bent up but not installed yet. He is looking for a stock steel 33 Vicky to scan the rear of the car as to make it correct to original. He thought about a glass car but our concerns are that the glass body may not be exact as a steel body so the hunt is on. Any one have a steel 33 Vicky that he could borrow for a short while to scan the rear .

  14. The rest of my story. After 4 years and $7,500.00 at this guys shop all that he accomplished was to have the body blasted , made 2ea door skins and repaired both door bottoms . Installed a X member in each of the doors to help carry the weight and to prevent from future sagging . he installed 1ea door skin . I know that we were looking for a 33 Vicky donor to scan the rear body profile but for what I paid and to only have that little work done . I chose to abandon any more work done by him and picked up the car . At this point I am not satisfied on my money spent at his shop and would not recommend his services.

Sorry to hear this, now what?

  16. Well I am giving him 1 month to come clean and make this right , otherwise I am taking the next step.
This should not be happening to honest guys who are willing to pay for work stated.

That’s a bummer. Seems it happens too often. Hang in there and get it done

  19. I just do not want anyone else to experience this. I have had a few PM's on experiences with this guy .

Used to be pay for a job, the job was done. Seems the last 30 years or so, you pay ahead of time and hope something gets done.

Remember the days when you only paid when you picked them up? Long gone I guess

  21. You both are correct . These days , shops work off what is in that account and most will give you a running tally as what and how the account balance was used. I do understand that being in the construction business. Always get a little draw as the project progresses. But when nothing had been done after the last deposit and when I picked up the car he indicated that there was no funds left in that account. I told him I will give him 30 days to come up with a current itemized statement of expenses. I feel like others that have responded , that he is going to blow me off and consider that all the funds have been exhausted. I have statements showing expenses and they do not add up to his last comment about the account. Will see where this will end up.
Again I do not want others to be taken.
Would like to receive PM's on others experiences and they will be kept confidential.

Its unfortunate that Vic didn't contact me first to talk about things. Instead I found out about these posts from a good friend.

I believe in full transparency, and as such I will show everyone the condition of the car that I started with, and the work I provided. As well as the full breakdown of my time spent on each section.

This car was in really rough shape when it was brought to me. Plenty of rust through, and lots of dents. Most of that wasn't an issue as we were planning on replacing the entire rear section of the car. The car had not been taken apart before I received it, and so I had to take it completely apart in preparation for sandblasting. This is a time consuming process heating each nut to break it free from the rust so they don't get damaged.

While we were looking for an original 33' Vicky to pattern off of. Vic wanted me to repair the doors, and the roof. So I hammered out two door skins before I sold my power hammer. Then pressed out the main bead. At this point the project went back on hold.

The roof on the car was in really bad shape, especially the drivers side rear. So I recommended that we look for a donor roof to help repair. I found one locally. I prepped that and the insides of the doors for sandblasting.

On these large doors there isn't much support, so I like to add a inside brace connecting the rear hinges to the front of the door. This really helps in sagging. But there isn't much room so that panel has to be curved so it doesn't effect the glass. So those were made and fitted.

I had a die set made up to press out the door handle embossing. Once I had the passenger door fitting I laid out where to turn the flanges, and finished installing the door skin. And then replaced the bottom of the drivers door. This was as far as the project went, as Vic bought another 33' vicky that was a wrecked car. So Vic came and picked up the car, which seemed like everything was good. Until I saw all this.

I hope others see how much work was involved to do what I did.

    Thanks,
    Chris Davenport

As an outsider looking in Vic,I have to say there is a lot of very high quality work done here, and 7500 does not go very far when speaking high end metal work. With probably 12 to1500.00 in stripping charges you are at 6000 .At whatever the shop rate is it burns up fast...

The quality of the work looks good..... Hourly shop rates eat up a lot of money fast .... Add in materials and cost go up quickly

  30. In Dallas, Texas .. just to unbolt & bolt on new parts is $60 to $100 an hour. Let alone custom fabrication, & hand forming 90 year old panels.

Outstanding work, by the way. Guess its supposed to be free ?:cool:
