Anyone know if they ever mounted a car battery in an oak box maybe on a running board or ??? in the 30's

There was something like 300 car manufacturers building cars before the 1932 Great Depression hit. The concept that one of them may have put the battery in an Oak box on the running board is a possibility, but I'd bet its more likely the original under the floor board battery holding bracket rusted out and someone fixed it by putting in an oak box on the running board. By the 30s most cars were getting pretty fancy, throwing a battery on the running board was probably not something most of the companies would have done. Now, trucks were a different story.

Some of the 20's cars may not have even had a battery! Gene

There were boxes for different things on running boards in old photos that were probably tool boxes or for other storage but if an oak box with the right hardware fit in with the total look of the build and didn't look like a rat rod decoration good enough. Ahrens Fox fire trucks used an oak battery box on the running board.

This is an oak box with 2 clasps and 2 holes for the battery terminals Looks like 4 mounting holes in the bottom

  8. Might be a way to disguise a 12V, modern-looking battery. And no worries about venting nasty vapors.

Why not post a picture of the oak box in question?
