My 261 engine in a 53 sedan smokes initially when started, then clears and smokes of deceleration, ideas??? I have very good oil pressure, vavle guides or rings??? Thanks, have a good day, stay safe
The smoke on startup is probably valve guides/ seals. The deceleration smoke is likely rings. Have you done any tests: compression or leak down? Without more data we are guessing.
I plan on re ringing this winter and having the valve guides replaced at that time also, thank you for your response, I appreciate any ones advise
Make sure that your dual action fuel pump is not leaking oil into the vacuum booster portion of the fuel pump.
Put some guide seals in it before you do anything. It's a 2 hr job, and might save you a bunch of $$$
My vote is also valve guide seals and next would be valve guides/valve stem wear. Also......be sure all drainback holes in head and block are open so that oil is not pooling in top of head.
Good advice above, rule of thumb is smoke on acceleration= rings, smoke on de-acceleration= guides or valve guide seals. As 302GMC said.
