Another gasser sees the light of day. This is a real, not built last week as a tribute, vintage gasser that was put away in 1969 in heated, dry storage and was just pulled into the light of day this week. Again, this is a real race car that was class winner at Dover Drag Strip in NY from 1964 to 1969 when the engine was somewhat disassembled never to run again. This was a very solid car in 1964 and has not changed a bit thanks to the 50 year storage in the back of a dry, heated auto body shop. In fact, the paint as done in the 60s is still in pretty good condition considering the time involved. Starting with a family members stock, original car in the early 60s the builder installed a 38 Plymouth straight axle, big Dodge rear axle with 5.38 gears and a real Detroit Locker. A built 241 with Jahns 9.0cr pistons, hydraulic race cam, dual point ignition, tri-power intake, Shafer clutch and Carter electric pump was installed. Behind this is a standard bellhousing with an adapter to the early Ford cast iron BW 4-speed transmission still using the original Ford shifter(what is that worth alone) and a shop built driveshaft. Lots of other parts are included with no guarantee that everything is there as this was last on the street in 1965. Speaking of that, the title/transferable registration is still in the builders' name and is also 1965. Interior is sparse but strangely enough the headliner is still complete although stained, the dash is all there along with the original keys which still work the ignition, doors and trunk. This car still has the as run at Dover original Caster recapped slicks. Timing slip shows the car ran a best time of 13.0 in 1969. If desired one could put this car back on the street or strip with some effort. Most glass is good with Dover stickers still in place along with the bucket seats, belts and high tech helmet painted to match the car. $12,000 starting bid on Ebay!
