I’m building a ‘32 with a suicide front like 3W Larry, but the grill looks off seeing the cut off ends off the rails. Maybe I need to pinch the front frame to match the width of the grill? What did others do about this? This just looks odd right now.
I guess I know what you mean but think once the headlights and shock stands go on , everything will look alright. Maybe you could try and mock up the headlights, shocks and grill insert and take another view?
Having a body on also would change how it looks. But id vote for pinching the rails to match the shell, that would blend it all a lot more
It's way too early to tell how its gonna look, mount the body and the rest of the front end, wheels and tires, roll it outside and look from fifty feet. Only then can you tell if it suits you.
Here's some inspiration from Shaun at #hotrodfab. This the sedan from another tread with the suicide doors.
I’m going to pinch the frame 3” in the front. It will make the hood sides flow with the frame rails too. 3w Larry’s car is pinched in the front. That seems to be the norm for this type with the suicide front suspension.
I like the 'look' of a suicide front end but, other than a cool look what else does it do? Lowers? Better ride? Better steer? I really like suicide/'see-more' doors (EZ to get my old, fat,ass out of!) Too bad the modern cars/trucks don't have them!! 6sally6
I just finished pinching a 32 chassis and I kept pulling it in till the outside of the rail was into the radiator mounting hole before it would flow from shell to frame. For reference
Make simple; You are looking at a metal shiny frame n black shell, get real, that is a lot of contrast. I don't think is how you would look n see if frame was paint black!!!< Frame Black kind of makes it not stand out like zero paint dose=it is right now in your eye/but will not be after painting. So if you want to cut frame up,or just paint is up to you .
The rolling bones style cars pinch it in behind the grille, that probably gives the cleanest look if that's what you are after.
Good look now ! Only thing I'm seeing I don't like is,the shackles are too low,by the time they get a motor an other stuff loaded on,will be hanging near straight down=bad. That happens to builders that mount shackle eye to bones too far from bone when making spring behind. Your panhard bar/plate will control it OK though,an they will just look wrong/not at 45*,so no big deal as long as panhard bars is working fine.
Thanks Dana for the tip. I wanted the shackle angle closer to 90 degrees at ride height. 45 degrees seems to severe. When the chassis unloads, it could cause the spring to invert.
I doubt the spring could shorten enough on rebound to invert. The swing of the Shackles is part of the suspension movement. Once static suspension is loaded I'd think about adjusting the perch length to try to get less angle on the Shackles. Looking good. Thanks for the progress updates. Phil
